Aux belt?

Featured Replies

Hi guys I've read on these forums that it's good to have the cambelt + water pump changed at 60k or 4 years. My car is quite a way past that 4 year mark now with no documented history of it being changed so I want to book it in. I'm abit confused as to what an aux belt is though or if I need it changed the same time as the cambelt (or does it even have one)? Help :D? Anything else need doing the same time?

The car is a 2007 Octavia vRS with tfsi engine.

It is what used to be known as the fan belt, but all cars these days have electric fans, so the auxiliary belt now runs the power steering pump, aircon, alternator etc.

Thanks :)

Should I get it changed the same time? As it's just a belt, I presume it can wear+snap like the cambelts do?

Seeing as the old one has to come off to do the timing belt and you are probably talking less than a tenner for a new one, then it will not do any harm.
