Spare or not to spare

Featured Replies

I had a nail puncture just before the off towing the caravan,

I only found out because I always check my tyre pressures

the day before. It was repaired by my local St.Keyna tyre depot

which stayed open specially!

I have a full size spare wheel, because you cannot tow with a

gunked tyre (or indeed over about 25mph solo)

  • It's a discussion forum, where a member had asked other members for for their opinion, resulting in a discussion. Thought that was the whole idea?

  • There is another financial reason for having the spare - you get a smaller boot so your missus can fit less new clothes, handbags & shoes in there!

You are allowed to tow with the spare that Skoda supply for the Yeti and with the gel in the tyre.

And where do you get the 25 mph from?

Yes, I happen to have the standard Yeti summer spare and also have a full size winter spare that I swap over with the rest.  It is no more difficult to store five extra tyres somewhere than it is to store four...

You're doing it properly. I'm amazed at the number of people who will cart around a spare summer tyre all winter long. Which is basically a complete waste of fuel (at least around here). And It's not an issue of storage, but (for me) one of cost and utility. I have two cars and five sets of wheels, so a whole bunch of spare wheels and tyres would really start to add up.

And I haven't actually needed a spare in many years. I think in fact the last time was around 1991. No, sorry that was the time before, the last time was in 2001. No doubt I'll need one tomorrow though, and will have to fool around with a set of studless winters or track day tyres or something.
