I've got an 05 fabia vrs with spongey brakes. I have no loss in fluid, no obvious leaks and the pads and discs are good front and rear. Only thing I have noticed is that it doesn't move quite as readily as my other fabia. That said, I can jack the car up and spin the wheels with no discernible resistance and the brakes all feel about the same temperature when stopped after a reasonable drive.

I've just bled the brakes on each of the calipers with no effect, however reading on here, it mentions something about bleeding using a VAGCOM in basic settings mode; what is the significance of this? It also mentions something about bleeding the master cylinder.

Has anyone got any idea what might be causing the spongey brakes?

Any help is much appreciated.

any info on when the brake fluid was last changed?

I had this on my fabia vrs. Drove me nuts. I tried some heavy braking to de glaze the discs which helped a litte. The over all feel wasnt right. Got sick of keep bleeding them and also if i remember rightly the handbrake adjustment has some part to play. Cant totally rememberas it was a few years back. Ended up getting 312's in the end

Fluid was changed a year or so ago (before I got the car so no idea if this was the instigating event). I already have 312s and the handbrake mechanism is operating freely and is releasing correctly...

If you're sure you have no leaks then change the fluid, this should include actuating the ABS unit via vcds. Only use a new, sealed bottle of fluid and make sure the res cap is securely on afterwards.
