Thanks for the link. just popped to my local garage and he will do all the above for £690 plus vat so happy :-)

Not really, you'd be looking at 300+ for discs + pads all round, same again for cambelt + water pump (minimum) and ~150 for a standard service. There's easily £7-800 worth in there even at an indie.

Yeah if you can do your own brakes (as you and I would*) you can save a lot of money.

*though in hindsight I would've gladly paid someone to do the rears on the vrs for me as it's a pig of a job.

Had this done last week, and although they DIDN'T need doing, I can tell you the costs:

60,000m 1.8 petrol service - £255

Front pads & discs - £269.45

Read pads & discs - 178.88 (2hrs labour front, 3hrs rear)

Total - £703.33

Needless to say I didn't take them up on their generous offer!

Yup, was gonna do the fronts myself and leave the rears to someone else but a bloke at work was happy to do both for £50 when they need doing in a few months time!

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong column... that's the stock quantity! :giggle:

I'd have the service and timing belt done by Skoda in as long as all the other serving has been done to schedule in order to retain a "good will" bargaining position with Skoda should the need arise.

Pads and discs local indie

Regards all

Didn't think the rears would be too bad on a 1.8 as you don't need to remove the caliper carrier to get the discs off do you?
