first proper 'play' with new octavia

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, mine is 2 weeks old now but today is the first time I've had a chance to have a proper play with all the bits & pieces. I would probably stop just short of saying it was worth the wait, but it's certainly a great car.

1. A couple of people asked for more pics of the red estate, not a great photographer but I washed the car and took a couple :) but now the  forum says "You can upload up to Uploading is not allowed of files "??

2. I am a bit obsessive-compulsive about stickers, I hate them, so having got rid of the ones off the windows and the glovebox I have turned my attention to the really annoying one on the back of the passenger sunvisor.  What on earth possesses them to do things like this? I don't know what it says on it and I don't care, but I want rid of it.   Turps isn't working very well so now I'm thinking heat gun? Has anyone managed to get it off?

3. Is there any way to stop the sat-nav from randomly zooming in and out? I deselected 'auto zoom' but it still seems to do it!

Thanks guys.

Random mention for something else I've been working on today  - I'm trying to convert the phone-holder-which-fits-in-the-cup-holder thingy into something which is actually useful - so far I have rigged a charging plug into the bottom of it so that i can insert it and have it charge automatically, and i've also sorted out an app which turns the bluetooth on when it's charging. So far so good, obviously I will be running the wire behind the trim to the fusebox, I haven't looked into yet but judging by posts on here sounds like it's a bit of a pain!

Mine came without the one on the sunvisor, luckily :)

I think you'll find the sticker is kind of laminated into a clear coating that covers the whole visor; attempts to remove it will probably knacker the visor.

Most of the later cars are like it so would probably leave it as to end up having to replace the visor could be relatively costly.

Also 100% agree about the map autozoom function; is the thing that annoys me most about the whole car. I like mine set permanently at 75 yds or so in order to see junctions and road names but it just does its own thing most of the time on manual scale. Honestly who really needs 1 mile + worth of zoom under normal circunstances?

That's what I thought but then I saw an July/August ex-demo with the sticker on the sunvisor yet my October car doesn't have it.....

Perhaps its some and some then depending on the parts bin?

I'd be interested to see how you've wired up the phone holder/charger.

Hi, just finished it off today. I'm really pleased with it as now I can plug it into charge, and switch on bluetooth/music at the same time, without having any leads anywhere.

Look away now if you like things done properly: I glued the connector into a bit of wood and glued that to the bottom of the rubber holder thing, cut the bottom off the cup it sits in so there was space for the wire to get round (the half inch where it exits the cupholder is the only bit which is visible), then canibalised a charger off a phone I don't have any more, used the tiny circuit which hopefully converts 12volts to whatever the phone needs, then used a random bit of old speaker wire to run halfway round the car (tucked behind the trim, round the back of the console all the way round under the rear ashtray) to get the lead over to the passenger side.  Got the glovebox off which was easier than I thought, too cheap for a piggyback fuse so I just rammed the wire into fuse no.40, screwed the negative on a random bolt nearby, then put the glovebox back in, which was a lot harder than getting it out. Total cost, nothing!

I was going to paint the bit of wood black, but to be honest you don't even see it unless you look directly down it so I didn't bother. I took a couple of photos, but the forum still won't let me upload them??!
