Mk 1 Fabia vRS - How quiet/refined?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm contemplating changing my Mondeo for a Fabia Mk 1 vRS. The Mondeo is a brilliant car but it is so very 'grown up'; it is fast, quiet, comfortable and refined, does everything well and transports the whole family (of 5) comfortably. But with our eldest at Uni and our second about to go to Uni, we rarely all travel in the same car anymore. Also, when I fancy being a 'bit of a hooligan' the Mondeo doesn't really fit the bill, which is why I regularly take Mrs T's Fabia Mk 2 vRS if I'm just popping out for something.

However, the Fabia Mk 2 vRS is quite noisy inside and not very refined, is the Mk 1 better in this respect?

It can be quiet when cruising depending on tyre choice, but it isn't very refined. As standard they are a bit soft and wallowy.

Tyres make a huge difference to how noisy the car is.

The mk1 isn't particular refined, although its definitely not the worst in its class :)

It's not very refined at all in my honest opinion. Have you considered a MK1 Octavia VRS? Much more refined, quieter, more comfortable and much better handling when you want to be that hooligan. Cheaper to buy too and if you do find yourself in a situation where the kids come home and you need to transport the family and luggage, it won't be a problem.

Fabia vrs's are value gor money...

cheap tax. Cheap insurance. Cheap to run. But go like a rocket. Considering the price of them.

embarace thr audi's with acceleration and keep up with allot of higher valued cars.

But refined... meh ish

With cruise control. And heated seats on. Can quite hapily sit on motorway for hours on end.

bit I always find fun.. sit at 60mph and wait a fast moving car to overtake you and as they go past ... boot it and in the lenght of the car. .. your going same speed ;)

But but never topping 70mph ofcourse. Never try to go at 80 or 85mph because this against the rules ofcourse

It's about as refined as a tin of SPAM. I can hardly hear my passengers talking with my "Avon" tyres on lol.

Nope, not really refined. It can cruise quite nicely but not really stop or corner as standard. Not at all hooligan IMO.

When suspension is fettled they'll go much better but you lose refinement.

Ive owned mine for a week now and loving it

It has cheap tyres on the front which are noisy but they are coming off soon for fresh tyres so hoping decent tyres will stop the road noise

Full leather in mine is very nice indeed it feels very nice inside but like people have said its a nice cruiser

Yeah i'd say it was pretty refined for what it is, i went in a newer fiesta 1.25 the other day and compared to the vrs its much noiser with worse seats and very harsh ride. Due to the large engine and low gearing, id say the fabia is great small motorway cruiser for such a small car

I have a standard model Fabia 1.9 TDI. I bought it to replace a 2002 1.0 Corsa and in general it is more refined and better put together than the Corsa.

However when you put a big diesel in a small car you always have excess engine noise compared to a petrol engine and the Fabia is no exception here. My MK 2 Octavia 2.0 TDI feels like a Rolls Royce in comparison to my Fabia, but the Fabia isn't so bad that you can't drive long trips in it or anything.

The Mk 1 and Mk 2 Fabia share a very similar platform, so are not that far apart in terms of build quality. I suspect you would find the Mk 1 vRS worse than the Mk 2......principally because the Mk 1 is Diesel and the Mk 2 is petrol.

Mines very peaceful on the road, a good few hours going round the car with torx bits will eliminate most of the irritating rattles that come with age and the build quality is pretty good i think.

not refined at all.  It will feel awful after the Mondeo.

I have to agree.....compared to a Fabia Mk2 vRS it'll feel worse.....compared to a Mondeo it'll feel pretty awful.

Basically you're conning yourself if you think it'll be refined coming from a Mondeo, it's utilitarian by any modern standard. You'd be much better off with something that's actually fun to drive as that's what you seem to want, after that you just turn the radio up to cope with the engine noise ;)
