Mk1 Fabia with Electric window woes

Featured Replies

Hello people,

This is my very first post, so go easy on me, please

I have a 2006 Mk1 fabia with electric window problems. for the last few years they have worked fine during the summer months, but when winter comes round and it gets cold again, my windows just stop working.

I have checked the window switches on both the drivers and pasenger side and they seem to be workin fine, but I pretty much get no response from either switch on either front window (my rear windows are manual) If it take out the 3  25 amp fuses located near the bottom of the fuse box and move thenm around, I can usually get the passenger side window to work again for a little while, but it often doesn't work again the next time I use the car.

From what I have already read on this forum, I think the problem is probably the window motor/ controller ECU located in the drivers door behind the door card.  It's part munber is 6Y2959802  It possibly has the suffix SK1 after it, but I'm not sure about that.

Anyway, before I go ordering a motor/ controller unit, which ain't cheap, It's like to check the connections at the terminal block located in the wiring harness that connects the door to the car.  The trouble is I'm not sure how to pop the rubber gaiter off that goes beetween the door and the main body of the car.  I don't wanna brake it!!

Can anybody tell me how the gaiter comes off so I can check the harness at that connector?

Many thanks in advance!!

Cheers

I think everyone needs this sorting. I need the 2 plug one and they are hard to get hold of other than the £160 asking price brand new.

Welcome :)

Removing the gaiter is very easy - it just pulls off. It can be a bit of a pain to get back on though.

This was mine when I found a snapped wire inside it...

O.K. thanks, So it just slips over that white outer shroud around the connector block? That's a propper broken wire!! good grief!!

You need the same motor as me as I have the same problem. Don't get one off ebay with a 'A' at the end of the part number as it's wrong as I found out :( still need to fix mine think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy new as I can't find one used

Yes, it slips back over it. It's a bit fiddly to get it right but not too bad.

Yeah, the broken wire was causing my central locking to go a bit mad. Haha

Thanks guys!!  You've been a great help and encouragement.

I popped the rubber boot off and had a look at the connectors and wires. Like you guys said, getting the boot back on was a bit of a PITA, but not too bad. Everything looks o.k. in there, so I guess I have to order  a new motor controller unit.

Does anyone know of anybody who has repaired a faulty controller unit? If it's possible to remove the circuit board for the main unit, maybe I could repair the fault, might be just a dry solder joint somewhere.

I've had to luck looking on e bay for a replacement motor either, but thankfully I have a mate who drives a van for a local auto parts supplier. I'll ask him to get me a price for a new one.  I'm not sure if the 6Y2959802 should have the suffix SK1 at the end or not?  Apparently it has something to do with the controller software, not sure if that would be can bus related, that stuff is over my head LOL!! but I think there is a difference between SK1 and SK2.  The motor I have also has SK240DDRS written on the label, but I'm not sure if that means it's SK2.  Probably not!!

Oh, one last question!!!  When I remove the motor controller unit, do I need to find a way to hold the window in place to stop it dropping down while I swap the motor out, and do I need to worry about the window mech unwinding it's self when I remove the motor?  I assume It will uncoil a wee bit, but it won't matter as the motor will turn and take up the play once the window motor starts operating?

Thanks again!!

I've had the same problem with my 2007 vRS over the past two winters. Windows stopped working last November and drivers hasn't worked since. Passenger side only works if I reset it and then it packs up again anyway. So I've bitten the bullet and ordered a new drivers door unit from my Skoda dealer in Lincoln. Over £160!! Only trouble is I've been waiting 4 weeks and it still hasn't arrived.

Absolute joke to get hold of.

Tell me about it I've searched every online scrappy, motorhog, skoda spares, messaged every one on here who's breaking one and still no luck :( it's getting that bad I'm seriously considering buying a new one!!! Has anyone tried gsf yet for a price as tps quoted me £160ish

Snap. Every week I email people. I'm gunna hold out for now but it is starting to annoy me. How is it that these 2 plugs are so hard to get hold of yet these 3 plugs are not :(

This has happened to me since I’ve owned mine, windows work march through october, its like they’re on a timer.

I just can’t see how the motor controller is bad when they work so well over the summer, never mind how hard it is to actually get hold of a new one for a reasonable price.

Mine just don't work full stop. I can't see why the 2 plug motors are so hard to get or even why they made 2 different ones. What years are yours out of interest? Mines a 2005

2007 '07' plate.

cant you just take the three plug versions, strip the wiring out and rewire it into the two plug variant? May be a bit of a pain to do but if it saves a shed load of money?

Not a clue. When it comes to electrics I'm brilliant at changing a bulb, that's it :(

Mines a later 2007 version. It's a bit of pathetic situation, can't even buy a new  motor!

What motor is yours?

Is it even possible to get them fixed?

I need to get my friend who DID have a vRS LE until recently to put you straight on this one.

He is a member in here but probably doesn't come in here as often now.

He had this problem a few months ago, (windows went down overnight on their own for starters) and after much cost and messing about, in the end it was simply found to be  a dodgy wire behind the fuse box that was causing all the grief IIRC.

I'll ask him next time I see him (see him every week through work) and get him to either explain to me in full or to drop by in here

Is this the same motor that everyone needs? (This is my own from my car)

I've found one for sale, I'm just waiting on him getting back to me on him having more than one in stock.

Polluxtroy69 that's the same as mine. Renault must have similar motors as I see you can buy repairs for the Temic circuit.

I've just bought one for £32 delivered with 30 days warranty paid with Pay Pal too.. Hopefully this will sort my car out once and for all. Everything seems to go all at once with the car and it has done my head in. They still haven't got back to me on any more in stock. I'll email them again and get back to you all.

Polluxtroy69 have you got that secondhand motor? And if you have does it work? I'm still waiting for a new one, after 6 weeks!
