Door check strap

Featured Replies

Hi all, my front drivers door strap is broken. the door isn,t staying open on its own. Ive bought the new part for replacing the old one, but i cant for the life of me seem how remove the old one. There are 3 bolts holding it on, 1 on the door, and 2 into the "a pillar". Do i have to remove the "a pillar" panel with the bonnet release lever on, to remove the check strap through there. If so, how do i remove the bonnet release lever.

Any help / advice would be gratefull,

many thanks

Have a search for 'leaky Fabia solved' i think its called. Theres photos and an e planation. Its like a slidy clip set into the top of the handle. You lift it out with a flat blade screwdriver and the handle slides off.

Thanks for that, I've taken the bonnet release handle, & the trim panel off now. I still can't see how the check strap can come off, unless I have to take the arch liner off & get it out that way

You're welcome :)

Unearthing an old thread here sorry. I am really stumped as how to remove the check straps? The link above doesn't explain actually how to remove them? I have removed the trim near the bonnet release and you cannot access the back of the chech strap, do I have to take the front wings off?!

Any help would be massively appreciated, I am stumped

Thanks

This bit:

23 -  Door arrester

- Removing:

–  Remove door trim panel from the bottom of pillar A.

–  Release screws Pos. 21 and Pos. 22.

–

Push door arrester inwards and remove from pillar A.

Seems to cover it except for releasing the strap from the door itself. What you need there is an M8 spline bit for the single screw fixing into the door.

Edit: ah, I just noticed you've edited this question since I first looked at it, to include the sentence, " I have removed the trim near the bonnet release and you cannot access the back of the check strap, do I have to take the front wings off?!"

I'm afraid that makes my advice above useless, sorry. No idea how you access the inner end of the thing if it isn't possible as described in the link.
