air intake hole

Featured Replies

Is there any reason for the air intake to have no back on it? Surly its better off blocked so all the air gos up into the engine?

Is it not to limit the amount of water taken into the filter housing.

Would water get in anyway? Because the air has to go up and round a seriese of bends before it gets to the filter?

I think it's a precaution. It's German isn't it, 40 bolts to do one job.

I have covered it up and removed the plastic tray bit out the airbox as well. Not had chance give it a proper blast though to see if i notice any difference. 20140505_152710.jpg

Hmmmm hope I haven't covered up the wrong bit. There was a rectangle space next to where the air filter sits which has a circular hole within. That hole I covered up.

Oh no, I was right. Mine just doesn't vent to the engine bay, just vents to that chamber. Anyway, covered and the plastic removed.

Chamber? Ill get some better pics up tomorrow of what i did. Have you noticed any diffence?

If you remove the cover to the air box you will see the large chamber which contains the air filter, above that, under the intake pipe is a second chamber. This chamber, on yours, obviously vents into the engine bay. However, on mine it vents to sod all. I have a hole which vents from the large chamber to this small one. Not sure what it's doing to be honest. Not a lot I would suspect.

Not exactly. Mine is a diesel 170CR, top end of the revs feel very free, they didn't beforehand.
