Will 215/45's be ok on 17's?

I have read the whole thread

You dont want 205/40/17 as you don't like the look

You don't want 215/40/17 as they are £30 a corner extra

And trust me you certainly don't want 215/45/17 as they are too big

So what are your options then...

Deal with 205/40/17's

Pay the extra £30 per corner for the 215/40/17's

OR buy the completely wrong sized tyre for your car - then hate it and have to sell them on costing waaay more in loses than the extra £30 a tyre.

So what is YOUR decision?????

no need to be a clever ****** about it is there. I'll decide when I've had a try of some 45 profile on the car, everyone has different opinions on how things look

Fit some and post some pictures.

Just trying to help but it seems like you don't want help.

It will look funny theres a massive difference in a 45 profile. Your basically looking at fitting golf / octavia size tyres to a fabia

I appreciate the help that's been given but I don't appreciate the cocky answer you have to give, I'll get some pics up after I've tried some of whatever I decide to go for

I've still got a good 10mm gap between the arches anyways

They wont fit when your that low

They have an extra 30mm diameter so your talking an arch gap loss of 15mm

= no go

Go onto

Willtheyfit.com and enter different sizes which will give a better idea

falken ze914 in 215/40/17 £93.96 fitted

Kumho ku39 215/40/17 £85.43 fitted

Both more than capable tyres saving your £30

its not that there too expensive, I'd just rather not pay it, + they don't do Assymetric 2's in 40 profile, well I can't find them if they do

Ahem didn't you see "TOO BIG" ?  Not sure why you would even think about fitting the wrong size when there are cheaper tyres in 205/40 R17 and 215/40 R17.  Hell I only paid £75 ish a corner for Federal 595 RS-R tyres, :D

There's nothing about style, etc in it. 215/45 R17 is TOO BIG   :D   TOO BIG, LIKE THIS POST. :p

they'll look like this. :peek:

I have a legit explanation why mine looks **** BTW :D

Looks funny :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Too big! :D

And rubbed

they're 16 Octy wheels with the correct size tyre for an Octy. Was a test bolt onnage to see what the rims looked like.

ie, TOO DAMN BIG :D

Yeah so 17's with golf / octy size tyres will look similar

Although i know the octy is 205/50/17 and the golf 225/45/17 the difference between 215/45/17 and 225/45/17 will be marginal (10mm in diameter - 5mm arch difference)

215/45 would probably be okay on a 10j rim mate ;-) haha

45 profile will look pants imo.

If you dont already know (you probs do) profile is a percentage of the width. . But I think 205/45 would still look pants.. on a 17 you want 40 profiles.

where did you get the federal's for that price from?

On an Ibiza, at least - so same floorpan... 205/45s work fine and the speedo is pretty much spot on. According to little bro. He measured it with a GPS whilst bored.

Can't comment on 215/45s.

Must say this is amusing - the tried and tested 205/40/17 and 215/40/17 work well depending of widths of wheels etc.

Have seen some 195/40/17 work well however.

Tom the 45 profile are just asking for trouble, you'll scrub on full lock and most likely rub with fatties in the car.

On my rapid I tried 225/40/18 from a mk3 vRS and the car had a fit - stock wheels were 215/40/17. I need 215/35/18 so gave up as 35 profile for a daily would be awful!

I run 215/40's on 8j.

You have the same issues as me, Kenny? Looks a very similar ride height to mine too.

I had to raise mines for the wider tyres, tbh it's nicer to drive now.

I've used 215/40 on 17" spiders. Don't go for 45. Simple.

Try looking at the Hankook V12's :)
