Will 215/45's be ok on 17's?

Featured Replies

As title says, I'm running 205/40's at the minute and aren't really finding them great. Going for eagle F1 Assymetric 2's and in 205/45 form there £114 per tyre and in 215/45 they are only £89 so I'd rather the cheaper obviously !

They will be fine, once mine are getting low I shall be switching to 215's.

i thought they would be to be fair there won't be much difference in the ones I have now ! Cheers

If anything they will protect your alloys even more from kerbing.

On 17's yky should be running a profile of 40 mate. 45's will be fine, but your speedo will read wrong :)

Oh ... And 215's on my 8j wheels rub on the front.

I'm not fussed about the speedo as long as it's not under reading lol... My front wheels are no where near the arches so I shouldn't think it'll rub

40's look flat all the time I hate it lol

Is there an advantage to running 45s?

At your height I think you will definitely scrub the arch liners with that size tyre tom.

215/45/17's are miles too big!

215/40/17's will be fine if you want a bit wider and slightly taller tyre

The 215/45's you are considering are 30mm bigger in diameter than what you have

In lay mans terms they will look like monster truck tyres. I seriously suggest you do not buy those tyres or you will regret it

Your 2 choices are 205/40/17 or 215/40/17

Comfort and wheel protection I believe.

I'm running 17 Octy Spiders with 215/40, not particularly low and can say it rubs on full lock...

Well my mate runs 215/45's on his CTR and they definately don't look like monster truck tyres, in fact, they look 100x better than mine on 205/40's.

I've been thinking about raising it up a bit anyways Joe, have to find someone with 45's and try there wheels on before I go ahead. Kinda want the bigger tyre track look as wheel instead of elastic bands

I've still got a good 10mm gap between the arches anyways

As Jase says. Just go for the 40's the 45's will make the car look daft !

Yes its a bigger car!

I have seen 225/45/17 on a fabia and it looks hilarious. The 215 will be much the same.

By all means fit them and post pics so i can say 'told ya so'

it's about £30 more per tyre thow, not a fan of that lol

Go for 205/40/17 then

Trust me you will regret it! Someone posted a fabia on 225/45/17 a while back and it looked like a noddy car

I took am not a huge fan of the rubber band look, 205's on my 7.5j wheels looked a bit naff, upped to 215 and they look much fatter and 'fuller' so to speak. 45's might work, but I'd imagine to raise to up enough not to rub it'll maybe look a bit odd? The type of tyre will make a difference too, paradas look quite chunky sidewall wise.

i already run 205/40 that's why I'm wanting to change I don't like the profile they feel ****e round corners and they constantly look flat

Spend the coin on 215 40's then

have you not read what I've been posting :S Jesus lol. I said it's an extra £30 a corner which I DONT want to spend.

215/45 TOO BIG.

End of. :)

So stick with 205/40 or 215/40, or if 17" tyres too much, go back to 16" as the 205/45 R16 isn't too expensive usually.

its not that there too expensive, I'd just rather not pay it, + they don't do Assymetric 2's in 40 profile, well I can't find them if they do

I have read the whole thread

You dont want 205/40/17 as you don't like the look

You don't want 215/40/17 as they are £30 a corner extra

And trust me you certainly don't want 215/45/17 as they are too big

So what are your options then...

Deal with 205/40/17's

Pay the extra £30 per corner for the 215/40/17's

OR buy the completely wrong sized tyre for your car - then hate it and have to sell them on costing waaay more in loses than the extra £30 a tyre.

So what is YOUR decision?????
