My car spits flames!

Featured Replies

I assume this is an issue with my Walbro fuel pump not holding fuel in the surge tank, so the engine is briefly starved of fuel.

Very occasionally in second at full throttle it will cut power (enough to lock the seatbelt) then power immediately comes on full with a big bang (presumably unburnt fuel being spat out of the exhaust).

It's a funny one and I can't seem to make it do it deliberately. Except at Pukekohe circuit on the tight bend before the straight - it happened every lap.

It did it when I happened to have a mate behind me on Sunday when I pulled out to do a full-throttle up-hill overtake - see pic :D

haha! Cool. I'd live with it IIWY. Not much looks as cool as unburnt fuel being spat out. Afterburners FTW :D

Maybe I can get the map tweaked so it flames every time I change gear. Then again maybe not - don't want to burn too much fuel unless it's making me go faster :D

but, vroooooom (fire) bang bang is cooler :D

My Walbro did the same towards the end of it's life. Sometimes if reduced fuel flow in mid range and got annoying. Replaced it with a LCR one and ran much better.

Hmm it should last longer than 5000km though so hopefully it's not end of life!

You've been caught on camera!

Get the sytec in tank pump

Fits properly

The walbro doesn't use the intank surge tank properly hence issues

Mine worked really well (the one we fitted together mate) until i run low on fuel one day and it was never the same after that. It was hesitate, struggling etc. Maybe there was a blockage elsewhere , but replaced it and run ok .

I would go Sytec next time to..
