VCDS to code out airbag light

Featured Replies

Just wondering if it is possible to code out the airbag seat light?

The situation is I have recently put some audi s3 seats in my mk1 octavia vRS and my vRS seats had airbags. Unfortunately the connector on the s3 seats are different so I now have the airbag light on my dash due to the seat connectors not being plugged in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can get them rewired as I was looking at changing the seats in my Octavia for A6 ones which have the same problem.

Personally I'd not want a car with the airbags disabled.

It was just the seat airbags that I want disabling not the two front ones if that is possible?

I did cut the connectors off my vRS seats so could just wire them into the seat and connect up but thought that it would be easier if I could just disable the seat airbags through VCDS.

you can disable them in the Mk2, you probably can in your mk1

have a look in the adaption channels

I'm not sure this is possible in the Mk1. You will probably have to go down the route of connecting a resistor of a suitable value to the old airbag wiring to fool the system into thinking the airbag is still connected. That should clear the airbag light......after you clear the fault code.

Right I have tried the resistor method to fool the airbag system and it has worked once the fault code was cleared.

Incase anybody reads this in the future then you know it works by using a 3w 4.7ohm resistor.

I only use the resistor method as a last ditch temporary fix to get a car past a MOT. I wouldn't leave it like that.

As mentioned earlier in the thread it should be possible to work out the wiring for the S3 seats and connect them up to the system. There's only 3 wires so it can't be that difficult, and you'd have functioning seat airbags.

Yep that's what I am doing as I could not stand having a warning light on the dash!

I have emailed a few sellers on eBay who are breaking audi s3 to try and get the correct airbag plugs which I will then fit.

I was repairing my console ( the MPG digits were displaying intermittently) and found black tape stuck over the airbag light. Wonder how it ever passed an MOT since the light would never show on even with just ignition switched on. Funnily it is on all the time. I did however get the trip computer digits and milometer digits all working.
