sort of rattling noise coming from engine bay

Featured Replies

Hi, I have noticed the past month when setting off and at low revs (1000 to 1500) no matter which gear there is a sort of rattling/whirring noise coming from the front of the engine, i read it could be the alternator tensioner, air con pulley or a soft gearbox mount. I was thinking it could be the gearbox mount cos my dad said the engine tilted back a lot in the drive when I lifted the clutch with handbrake on to put the engine under strain to replicate the noise and when I put my foot down in second right through the revs and go to put it in 3rd it won't go in functions couple of attempts, does this sound right? Is there a way to check if the others are ok? Sorry about the questions but I drive 110 miles a day to get to work, skoda octavia vrs tdi 57, thanks for the help

Hello mate,

I had a similar issue with my car when setting off from a standing start or when manoeuvring slowly. It sounded more like a metallic buzzing noise which was coming from the engine bay.

It was the plastic trim from the air intake at the front of the engine bay. I sorted it by using a couple of sticky pads which I wedged between the plastic trim and the bodywork. I've done a quick search of the forums and came up with this.

If you're still struggling, let me know and I'll take a photo of exactly where the problem lies. In the meantime, do a search on the forum as I'm sure someone has posted pics of a fix but I'm a bit pushed for time to search for them at the moment.

Hope this helps & good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I'm have to have a look at that but my cars off the road now, found today the alternator belt is chaffing on a air con pipe when the engine moves so the belt is in bad shape, this happened because the engine mount underneath the car has a bolt missing on the engine side so is no longer attached, does anyone know where I can get one from or if it is a bolt? Thanks

i have similar problem with my 2007 vrs pd tdi . sound is vibrating like a worn bearing race.

Mine doesn't sound like that, mine is quite loud like rattle/knocking, but with this engine mount come off it could be the engine moving about to much? I don't know where to get a bolt from to refit the underneath mount back to the engine?

I can only suggest a skoda dealer .

Thanks for your help, I don't have a skoda dealer near me unfortunately and I was hoping to get hold of a bolt myself, unless you mean ring a skoda dealer for a bolt?

Thanks

A mate of mine had this exact problem on his '05 Golf Gti and the pulley ended up chewing its way straight through the aircon pipe. He got the mounting bolt replaced easy enough (try a local hardware shop ??), but as far as I know still hasn't bothered replacing the aircon pipe which goes halfway round the engine bay and I believe was priced at around £130 !!!

Sorry to bump old topic, I have exactly the same symptoms.

Can anybody make a picture of this air intake at the front of the engine bay so I can check on my car?

Thanks

skodaparts for anything you could possibly need but genuine so pay the price.
