My Fabia Mk1 1.4 16v 74kw recently completely refused to start with the immobiliser light flashing. Same with both keys.  A trawl of the internet suggested costly and / or complex repairs....

 

To cut a longish story short I pulled out the instrument cluster (very easy - easiest I have ever done) and carefully inspected the solder joints on the PCB where the two connectors are soldered on. The green one had 5 obviously dry / cracked solder joints - all at the top of the connector i.e. uppermost when installed. I reflowed the the solder on these 5 pins with a very hot soldering iron with a fine tip (NB had to turn it up to 450 degrees to get a flow) and a very little new solder ( a really good light helps as does a very steady hand!) and put it all back together - problem gone and starts first turn of the key again with no flashing immobiliser light.

 

This is so easy to do (20 min job from start to finish) and more or less zero cost that I would suggest it is the first port of call if your fabia develops this problem.

 

I may be fooling myself but it also feels smoother and more responsive - but I suspect this is pure placebo and relief its working!
