Ashamed to say i once drove while very tired, so tired that my eyes were rolling in my head. There was nowhere to stop and services were about thirty miles away.

I done my best to stay awake and thought i had it under control, the next thing i heard was the rumble strip as i drifted into the hard shoulder. f*****g hell those things work well i opened my eyes and pulled the wheel to the right and had a lucky escape.

Must have fell asleep, i dont know for how long  Lucky for me i must of eased of the gas pedal while sleeping because when i woke up i was only doing about 40mph (on the motorway) If i had of drifted the other way i would have had some sort of accident for sure, maybe even injuring someone else.

Bottom line "dont drive when tried"

If ever i feel tired now i will stop, i dont care where it is. its just not worth chancing it.

I hardly ever drink, and have never or would never drive drunk, but I've had some really scary moments from being over-tired. Most memorable was in the Sahara when I completely fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the road at about 80mph. There's a natural rumble-strip of big rocks and soft sand which did a fantastic job of waking me and reminding me where th car was supposed to be.

It's the same anywhere though - big long empty featureless stretches of road. I like having things to look at or think about, and I get bored easily. I find it really difficult, after a long 70-80mph run down the M11 when you get towards London and it goes to 50mph, then down to 40mph on the A12 and 30mph on the long stretch of wide, open road down to where I live. My mind just switches off, and that's when I start driving like a ****.

I don't like speeding, but sometimes find rolling along at 30mph late at night when no-one is about can be dangerously mind-numbing.

I find that drinking and driving DO mix.

My wife's driving improves enormously after I've had a couple of pints.

Well, I can vouch today for the driving thing. Got so knackered and distant on the M4 West from TRAX, that I got my mate to drive the cav.... Was getting pretty bad again and I was feeling a lot worse (as a guess at least) than if I had been wide awake, bursting with energy BUT had a coiuple of beers.

IMO only of course.
