Have I been given the wrong ABS part?!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been having no end of problems with my ABS warning light recently on my 53 plate Fabia 1.4 TDI.

In trying to fix this so far it has cost me two new CV joints, and three new ABS sensors (Yes three.  I know there's only two, but one broke...!)

So far, through friends and contacts I have kept garage bills to a minimum but now it's starting to annoy me a bit!

I am getting a constant error now from the front right sensor - code 00285  AVS Wheel Speed Sensor : Front Right G45 - Static - no information on display.

Resetting this works until the car reaches 5 mph or so.

Now - the bit that's just popped out to me is the Front Right G45.  I've checked the box which the last replacement sensor came in and this says G95 on it.

I have done some rummaging around and can't answer this question otherwise, and whilst it might seem like a noddy question - could this be possibly a cause and have I been sold the wrong part?

its not the abs wire is it?? and not the sensor

Did you clean the reluctor ring with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits ? Maybe the sensor cannot read the ring.

DB.

I've tried what I can from what I've read on here before, like with the cleaning of the reluctor ring and what have you (didn't want to post something which has been on a few times before - honest!!)

I am really at the end of the resource of what I think I can do myself.  The part code was just something that popped out to me - wondering if a g95 sensor gave different readings dimensions or other issue of compatibility though I can't find too much on the web with regard the g45 and g95 parts.

Have you checked the condition of the ring.  On my old Peugeot it had a split, was literally less than 0.5mm but the sensor saw there was a problem.  New ABS ring later and off the ABS light went.

IIRC, G95 is a heated seat temperature sensor but is wouldn't fit.

You have done all the things that it could have been causing the problem.

It's now time to take-it to a garage for the professionals to do their stuff..and get it fixed for good??

It's a brand spanking new CV joint and ring.  On both sides.

Suppose that's answered the question :)

I reckon that's the only port of call now.  Sunk so much money into it recently I was hoping to get it done myself but I don't think I have much more choice now!

Anyone want to buy a 53 plate Fabia - slight ABS issue?  :)

Cheers for all the advice!!

It's sounding more like a broken wire than the sensor itself, remember a broken wire may not be visible if the cable has been stretched or strained and a conductor has broken inside the insulation.
