16" alloys for mk1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hello,

After a year of owning my vrs, I'm throwing in the towel with the 17" wheels. Sadly, the streets of edinburgh are more like war torn Beirut and my dentist is charging me a fortune to put my fillings back in...

Any advice on what other VAG car 16" alloys would fit? I had a B5.5 Passat Sport with 205/55/16s and the ride and handling was fine.

On another note, my 17" spiders are pretty mint if anyone wants to make an offer....

I've just sold my 16" spiders from my estate they would have been perfect

Anything from a MK4 golf based car will fit as long as it clears the front calipers.

Montreals from a golf or Bora will fit and look reasonably good too.

If you have 17 spiders I can see a lot of people with estates or early hatchbacks wanting to switch their 16s with you. I probably would just for the change, but I'm in Ireland.

I have 16 spiders and I must say I'm glad of it at times. It's that little bit cheaper to change tyres too.

I have some bora 16 inch wheels for my winter rims, fit over the brakes fine. 205 55 16 ride is quite good.

I'm thinking of doing the same, too many bad roads and speed bumps round here.

I've got some 16" spiders if any body wants to trade for 17" haha

This is interesting! I live in Edinburgh also and drive pretty much through the centre everyday and know what you mean about the roads! Have been wondering about putting the 17"s on. Maybe not now! Lol

Update- fitted some 205/55/16s of an Audi A3----what a difference! They don't look as good to be honest, but the ride quality is transformed.

Think I'll keep them for winter wheels.

Anyone got a price for 16 spiders? Think I will flog my 17s now

What's the grip and handling like on 16's?

I have a set of 16" Audi five spokes that I ran for a while that I was going to fit to my A2(now on 15"pepper pots) also a set of 16" Skoda Ride alloys a-la 4x4 :D. I am now running 15" pepper pots on the octavia as I have the 288mm disks back on. I ran 17" spiders with 205 and 225 in the past too.

Good - ride quality and relative primitive nature of that era sports suspension means it feels that with less crash and bounce from the 16s compared to 17s, the tyre spends more time on the road rather tan airborne.

Low profiles work on a perfect race track but less so on a normal bumpy road.

However, the 17s look tits awesome....

Can't have you're cake and eat it scenario ( unless you splurge cash on an Audi sport- then you can!)

Went to Manchester and back today, the number of potholes, badly repaired patches and uneven road surfaces is unbelievable!

I totally understand why there is so many middle lane hoggers after attempting a economy run, gave up after 10 mins and booted it, staying just fast enough to have to stay in lane 2 or 3. Still got 40.5mpg lol
