Vrs downpipe to turbo bolts

Featured Replies

Just a quick question, whilst under my car doing the dogbone mount today I had a quick look and squirt of plus gas on the downpipe to turbo bolts as I have a new 200 cel cat sat in the shed ready to fit in the next few weeks.

I know a previous owner has had a sports cat or de cat on it in the past but I noticed that 3 of the fixings holding the down pipe to turbo were studs facing down with nuts on and the one at lowest point near side (I think) had a bolt bolted up into the turbo as opposed to a thread coming out with a nut on it. Is this normal or is it likely that a stud had snapped in the past and a bolt put in its place?

Cheers

They all should be stud with nuts on,

I had to replace all my studs when i fitted my sports cat as they are lock nuts and strip the threads on the studs when they are removed

Hmmmmm, sounds like something has broken in the past, think I'll take another look at it.

Where can you buy these studs? Mine are in very bad condition.

Dealer only parts. I got new set when I change downpipe next time

Found this: Turbo to Downpipe Studs (4) 10x35 - N90767801

I googled them found a skoda dealer selling them, they're like £1 a stud and 70p a bolt

I'm ordering these studs tomorrow, I forgot to ask a while back, were your old studs easy enough to remove?

Cheers

They came out with abit of heat round the stud area on the turbo and a decent set of molegrips or stud extractor

A little butane blowtorch thing should work i would think from local DIY place, also might be an idea to get a tap with the same thread just in case

I removed my OEM 2004 CAT from my vRS just over a week ago. The CAT had never been off before, so I wire-brushed the threads as best I could, squirted some release oil on them, went away to fool around on the internet, came back and rattled them off with a cordless impact gun in less than a minute. When fitting the decat, I gunned them up loosely and finished them off by hand. A stupidly easy job! Maybe I was lucky?

I've got four brand new OEM downpipe nuts if anyone wants them, as I reused my originals. *shock*

Cool, sounds good. I think I'll get 4 studs and nuts just incase for the sake of a few quid and I'll give them a good plus gassing before attempting it and keep my fingers crossed!
