Electrics not behaving as they should ?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Not really sure where to start with this issue. I'm hoping its a one off but I'm worried it's not so I'd like to see if anyone else has had similar.

My car and key have been working fine and fault free for remote locking until a couple of days ago when it failed to unlock my car. I naturally opened it manually and noticed nothing else out of the ordinary. Since then I have had no issues.

Until this evening. I came to unlock the car and once again the key didn't remote unlock it (the red LED still flashed on the key). So again I opened it manually. I then put the key in the ignition and turned it and got no lights. So I shut the drivers door - and got lights. This made little sense at the time but I was just satisfied it worked. Once the car was running however I noticed the Radio had reset.

This to me implied the battery had essentially disconnected/died for a time and then once I got in and did the above, all worked fine.

Any ideas what might have caused this temporary death, or even a wise place to start?

Thanks

Also after arriving home, the key worked by remote and I also tried to recreate the lack of ignition with another manual unlock. It worked as I would have originally expected, so left me more unsure what may have happened before. Hence the post...

Check the cables attaching to the battery. Check the large bar fuses on the top of the battery box. Check fuses at the end of the dash in the main fusebox. If you don't have a multimeter, get someoen to check the state of the batetry and/or read any codes off the ECU(s).

Cheers, it's a 2 month old battery and it starts without effort every time so not worried about that. I did find the negative slightly lose, but still very much attached. It may have been the issue as it hasn't repeated since. But I couldn't repeat the issue before either......sooo, fingers crossed :)
