all in one pc's

Featured Replies

hi guys, can somebody recommend an all in one type pc for me please. it must have a touchscreen i'm looking for spend no more than about £600 ish. i dont want surf the internet with it or anything daft, it's going to get lugged about in a flightcase and used for doing lighting on stage/theatre which uses a usb interface, also must have a wifi point built in so i can use the ipad as a remote desktop, solid state storage preferable but not essential

i've had a look in pc world :bandit:  but i though i'd ask here if anybody can suggest anything different

Just ordered an Asus x551ca from Tesco. There's a version with SSD IIRC around £400,or look on the HP store (usually loads of offers posted on hotukdeals).

I have an HP that does all that. 23" touch screen, built in wifi.  a couple of years old now and cost about £600 at the time.

 that's a notebook isn't it?

i was thinking one of these things where it's all built into the screen type things, but i guess a laptop would be ok too

you been to have a look in Novatech, Tom? Not far from you + the staff know their stuff unlike the muppets in PC World.

Ah you meant like an imac all in one.

Take a peak at HP then.

You could look at one of the Windows 8 pro based tablets with Intel CPUs. We have some Toshiba ones at work, they can be used as tablets or flip out the built in keyboard for laptop style use.

it needs to be quit a hefty dual core according to the software manufacturer for the best performance so i think tablet based stuff is out?i tried it on an old panasonic toughbook that i borrowed and it worked but it was super slow.. also the software is only supported in windows 7 which i found a bit odd?? i dont know wether that means it will work on windows 8 or not, they also told me in most cases you can downgrade to windows 7 for free?

actually now i think of it some laptops might be a better bet, ideally it would have backlit keys too so it can be seen easily in a dark environment, i saw a lovely sony vaio i5 touchscreen laptop which had a tough annodised aluminium exterior as well in pc world but that was £600 which is right at the top of my budget but it does foot the bill perfectly.. i dont knoww why but i have a bit of a mental barr to using laptops but it does have a major advantage that if the plug is pulled by mistake it doesnt switch off instantly

will look at toshiba and hp next then :)

the other option i looked at is rackmounted desktop pc's but it's all the cabling and external peripherals etc i dont want to deal with, it needs to be as  simple a setup as possible

edit; wrong it's xp that is not supported, it will run on 7 and 8

I have one of these - a Flex14 with i5 processor, and very nice it is too.  Not sure that this spec is available in the UK though - I bought mine while on holiday in Dubai

These tablets are what we bought at work, they appear discontinued but can be found new.

Core i5, 128GB SSD and 4GB ram (upgradable) as standard, USB3 etc.

They really are quick, Windows boots to desktop in less than 5 seconds from power off and in standby the battery lasts ages.

Only trouble with those all in one things is that when something goes wrong parts can be murder to get hold of and then they charge a fortune.

And being all in one the heat inside can be massive which doesn't help part longevity.

Just a pointer for you.

Get an intel NUC and a screen of the size you want that includes vesa mounting holes on the back.

The nuc comes with a bracket, so it mounts there.

Then all you need is a keyboard and mouse, combined keyboard/trackpad or one of the logitech wireless ones with a unified receiver.

You could even mount it all in the flight case lid if you wanted and pop that on a gas strut or something.

nuc?

i've looked at hp all in ones and there is one which i like the look of, absolutely perfect but i'm reluctant to buy it yet.

+1 on that point. Any failure inside the box also writes off the monitor which isn't the case on normal desktops.

Have you looked at small form factor PCs? You could get a touch screen monitor and hang the PC off the back.

nuc?

Intel NUC... This one has an intel i5, but they do i3 and i7 versions too.

Then add...

M-sata SSD :

8gb ram, which is loads (must be 1.35 volt) :

Finally a wifi card :

You now have a high end compact pc, with a decent dual core CPU, 8GB ram, 240gbof SSD and dual channel wi-fi.

Crikey those look kosher mark, cheap too, all I'd need was a touchscreen telly to go with it.

Yeah the CPU isn't super powerful, but not weak either. What's the application you're running?

I'd think that should be more than powerful enough to run a desk.

A 23" screen

Good grief I bet that is a heavy piece of equipment?

I have a 17" screen on my laptop and that is a good weight.

240gb of SSD

That must have some nice start up times ?

8gb or Ram and an SSD ... Very nice indeed.
