Win7/32 to Win7/64 laptop upgrade

Featured Replies

The laptop (HP6910p) upgrade project proceeds ...

I now have a 256GB Crucial SSD and intend to use it to replace my existing 80GB HDD, upon which I have a win32 install.  I also have 4GB of RAM to install so my upgraded system will be 4GB RAM/256GB SSD / Win7/64.

Can I copy over a disk image and upgrade the win7/32 install to win7/64 (I have the disks)?

If not, is the Win7 backup option to move to a new system any good?  I know it will backup my documents etc, plus my Windows preferences but is that all?

Any suggestion as to how best to proceed, please?

Regards, Mike

IIRC you can't upgrade any windows version from 32 to 64 bit.

I think you can from 7 onwards, but it's not an easy task if you wish to retain anything

Backup and do it clean. 32 -> 64 is a big change, all the drivers and software need to be changed.

Upgrades never seem to work 100% and your always left fixing niggly problems.
