It would help the members here if you told us which gearbox, tell us the model year and whether it's 5 or 6 speed for starters please.

All vRS' are 6 speed

But yes, the gearbox code would help. There's a vRS breaking in the for sale ads.

Yes, as long as it's an 02m tdi from a Fabia etc

Not sure if the golfs had different gear linkage set ups but you can probably just swap that over from your existing box

Gearbox code is on a sticker under boot carpet or in the service book on a copy of said sticker.
