Tow bars and cycle carriers recommendations required

Featured Replies

Looking for advice/recommendations on tow bars and cycle carriers, as a friend of my dad's bought an Adventure 2wd a few months back and is now looking at options to carry his bikes but has ruled out a roof rack as too high for him.

Therefore can anyone recommend a tow-bar fitters (dealer or independent) in the North Lincs area who can also successfully do the required coding.

Also a suitable tow mounted cycle carrier for a couple of bikes.

Thanks,

TP

I have a Thule 9403 carrier, which is excellent. I only use it for carrying two bikes and its very simple to mount the carrier and the bikes, though the tipping for boot access is very much an afterthought and doesn't work well.

Like you I do not like the idea of putting them on the roof. This is supposed to be the best way to carry them, but it is not easy to get them up there. Many years ago I used a Pendle carrier on a flange mounted tow bar. They now do a similar unit that grips on the ball, http://www.pendle-bike.co.uk/shopping/hang-on-tb.php a solid and well made bit of kit but expensive. I am now looking at buying a Paddy Hopkirk unit for picking up sons bike from university. I want something cheap and easy to store [in the boot?] and this gets good reviews,  http://www.skidrive.co.uk/cycle/product_detail.php?partno=481000&gclid=COGLq9mgor4CFScHwwodJF0AMw at £48 inc p&p it looks good.

Can't advise about towball fitters as, after reading all the headaches and grief people had with towball fitters, we had one factory fitted.

The bike carrier we use is this

Found it packs down flat for storage / securing in car when out on bikes, really easy and fast to fit to towball and loading bikes can be done by one person. Not cheap but well worth it.

I recently bought an Atera Strada for my mountain bike after reading about them on here, no regrets.
