I thought another post, somewhere, said this was to reduce spray up the rear window. Air flow path and all that aerodynamics stuff.

What's the problem? Could you be thinking of tachograph and not tachometer?

 

Personally and as an aside, I can't say that I've ever been confused about which is which of speedo and tacho. The well-known speedo problem is the lack of important MPH markings - it's an annoyance for me but not for some I know. I guess the review writer was a bit sort of their required word count.

I don't think it's a huge issue, but I do wonder why it's felt necessary to have such a large tachometer.
