Work recommended by Skoda Dealer.. do these prices seem high?

Featured Replies

Took my 54 plate Octavia 1.9 DSG for a service at my local Skoda dealer (mileage 119k) which cost £140, so I was thinking thats not too bad.. then they presented me with a list of points that need addressing.  Do these prices seem very high to any of you?  Would I be better buying the parts of eBay if I can find them and find a mobile mechanic who will do it?

Hello

In regards to the service work you had done with us on Saturday I am emailing you with a quote for the work which was advised...

-The rear washer was advised to not be working, this will require further investigation £39.00

-The front wiper blades are smearing the screen £45.30

-The passenger side rear shock absorber is leaking, it is advised to replace the shocker in pairs, also it was noted the the suspension bump stops are broken, we would advise to do both these jobs at the same time to save yourself from paying extra labour to take the suspension apart twice £279.72

-The front wishbone rear bushes are perished £216.53

-The passenger side inner dirve shaft CV boot is split £145.64

-The spare tyre is flat and low on tread, the technition advises an new tyre £79.70

All of the above rices include VAT and Labour

Regards

The rear wiper / washer issue is well documented on here so you can diagnose the fault yourself saving £39.

As mentioned genuine Bosch wiper blades can be had on eBay for around £20 delivered to your door, one minute per side to fit.

Rear shocks and bump stops. The price will always be a little higher from a main dealer but it doesn't sound too bad to me when you considor labour and VAT are included together with the use of genuine parts.

I wouldn't bother with the wishbone bushes. Perished is one thing, movement is another.

CV boot might be an MOT failure so I'd get this done. The part isn't expensive but it involves dropping out the driveshaft so again £145 isn't bad.

Not keeping an eye on the spare wheel is bad on your side, pointless carrying one if it isn't going to get you home in the event of a flat tyre. Stick a budget tyre on there from a local tyre outfit and save £30.

Thanks for the advice.  I've got a replacement spare wheel from the Garage I bought the car from as the rim was damaged, so that is one less thing.  Think I will just get the CV boot done and buy some wipers from eBay, I know Bosch aero's are good so will get some of those.

The dealer also mentioned that the alarm for the horn doesn't work, but said it would be too expensive to repair and not to worry about it, is this a known problem?

I also had the whistling noise from the back doors (garage fixed it by using silicone sealant), cruise control stopped working ( i fixed that using a post in this forum :) ), strange climate control, vibration from the airbox ( i think)  at low revs, and a squeak somewhere in the cabin when going over bumps lol.  At least I dont seem to have sawtoothing on the tyres!

Apart from that I really like the car and love the DSG box on my daily 56 mile commute, much better than my old manual Focus.
