My first Octy VRS (help and advice required and appreciated for a noob)

Featured Replies

Thought i'd start a project thread on the VRs as i have a big to do list to get the car where I want it.

I'm an experienced forum lad - used to own and run my own car club (back in the boy racer/cruising days   ) grown up a lot, got married and had kids since! I love cars especially VAG. Previous cars include punto, focus, 2 x BMW, 2 x Audi, 3 x polo, golf, felicia, felicia pick up and a few more I can't remember. Most were modified in some way will post pics at some point. I have never owned a VRS but it was on my list for a while. When my last Audi hit 263K I decided it was time to let go and get the VRS i've always wanted.

I bought the car on 10th May. It is ex police with good history. Done 133K with cambelt and water pump done at 115K. Car drives well, engine feels great, brakes well (does get brake fade quick). Oil is golden, coolant is good overall mechanically looks good. Came with miltek exhaust and black re-furbed wheels. Oh and a **** stereo

Will get more pics soon.

I am going to start a to do list and then add or tick off as I go along.

Give it a bloody good clean!

Service - oil filter, fuel filter, oil change, pollen filter

Check all suspension, mounts, nuts, bolts and basically everything

Brake pads replace - decent ones to rid of the brake fade hopefully

Boost gauge - because its my first turbo car and I want one - DONE 14/05/14

New centre console and surrounds - being ex-police has holes in the current one

New front ashtray - current one in a bad way

Replace door speaker covers - both sides are cracked badly

Replace front grille surround - current one is cracked

Front drivers lower grill replace - current one is missing

Roof antenna replace or blank off - being ex police it just has a stub at the minute

Pull front wing out - looks like its been pushed in

Repair or replace front bumper - has numerous holes from police lights

Remove antenna point from rear quarter - unsure what to do about this. will post pics soon and hopefully get some suggestions.

Replace glovebox - current one in bad condition and not closing correctly

Paint touch up on front bumper - need to find colour code

Install cold air intake and cone filter

Replace carpet with mk4 golf/bora black carpet

Clean and re-paint calipers

For now that will do. First steps are more of a restoration stage. Modifying will come when car looks good as standard with no ex-police holes and damage. I do have plans in mind for modifying though.

Now to follow up with a few pics

Boost gauge installed - still got power to hook up for back light. Two spaces left for more gauges.

Missing grille - hopefully got a replacement sorted. Can also see paint damage that is on list.

Will have more pics soon and progress pics. I know the car has its cosmetic faults but I got it for a steal and I do enjoy having a little prooject. This forum is amazing and i'm hoping members will be generous with help and advice and i'm thanking you all in advance. I don't have much mechanical experience but really want to learn and do most of things myself (or with assistance) if I can. Want to get stuck in!

Right back to ebay to source bits......

I see the mongs installed the strobes into the bumper rather than the bump strip :wall:

At least a bump strip is easier to replace. Looks like you'll have to get the body filler out and then spray it.

You could always stick some fake aerials in the holders rather than remove them - at least it would look like they have a purpose.

Yeah the holes in the front bumper are a massive pain. I have seen some small vents I like the look of to put there. Proper vents not the halfords stick on rubbish.

Update today I sprayed the front lower grill I got and fitted it. I only had 'Ford moondust silver' so I used that as a temp fix. Turned out to look bloody good for a quick fix. I am tempted to carbon wrap the silver strips.

And I cleaned it yesterday and gave it a once over with the quick detailer. Noticed more dints and scratches.

I recognise that road.

I also notice loads of new dents and marks when i clean my car :(

Going by your name I guess the forum was sheffcruise? I remember going to a couple of the EUK meets years ago when I was first driving. We also might have a couple of mutual friends if that is the case.

I was a member of staff on Sheffcruise for a while yes but me and a friend left and started our own club. We did quite well tbh. There is a good chance we know the same people yeah!

Not much of an update but I have just found a brand new rear skoda badge in the boot bought from skoda and a brand new V badge for the front grill - these will be going on

Also remembered I have 4 15mm hubcentric spacers in my cellar so these could be going on depending on what they look like. Could be too much.

Ah so not the owner of that then (tbh I don't even know who it is/was anyhow) what was the one you ended up running?

I'm sure I'll spot you at some point of you're still local :)
