Front numberplate query

Featured Replies

Here's an odd one, the front numberplate on our MkII FL VRS appears to be stuck on with adhesive pads and is coming lose.

Our local plod often do drop ins whereby you can get your screws replaced with security screws to discourage plates from being pinched.

Here's the query though, do Mk II FL's actually have a hole to screw the plates into if they're drilled? Having had a quick search, plates on pics are either blanked out or do seem to be stick on only.

So, do we need to get some strong adhesive strips or can you actually screw plates on?

Cheers

They can be screwed on, you need to drill a pilot hole just smaller than the screw you plan to use, there is no right position just ensure the coloured caps do not change the letters or numbers.

Had a similar problem on my old Octy

If you don't want screw covers showing on your number plate then buy a plate surround (Briskoda or one of the many alternatives available) that screws to the bumper and then holds the number plate without screws being necessary.

There are 2x pre-drilled holes on the Octavia supplied from the factory. They are the inner pair of holes. They are non-threaded so you have to use a self-tapper of a wider diameter than the holes.

Or in the case of my car's local dealers just drill where ever you can be bothered...

Even directly into the metal bodywork for the rear plates, Idiots...

Thanks, was whether there were pre drilled spots really.

Remind us never to go to your dealer. Who did that???

Yes, there are pre-drilled spots, front and rear.

I bought the car used but the original supplying dealers name was on the bottom of the plates. Can't remember their name but it was in Blackpool. Luckily they are no more, given the standard of their work it's hardly surprising!

Thankfully Skoda UK agreed and paid to have the damage repaired.
