Metallic buzzing chain noise - vRS

Just got off the phone to Tom Chadwick at Customer Care. I left it insisting on either a competent person from Skoda UK inspecting the transmission from a mechanical point of view, not just plugging it in to a diagnostic machine and saying that the computer says no. Either that or Skoda UK can buy the car from me and I will take my business elsewhere.

I also expressed the offence I have taken from the dealers comments that it is my driving style something I also relayed to the bloke at the dealers when he said it. If the car can be driving that way then surely the transmission must be capable of handling it. I also explained I was not driving it as hard as it could be driven, I didn't even exceed 5000 RPM!

Tom is going away to speak to Skoda UK technical.

The dealership say they can do no more and that it is down to the dealership who completed the engine replacement. The service desk guy at the dealer even said how he thought they were doing me a favour by taking their time to both look at it and road test it, give me a courtesy car and replace a corroded alloy I have. Unbelievable...

Tom also claimed to never have heard of the recall for changing the transmission oil...

That is because there is no 'Recall',

they convinced the Dft/VOSA it was not Safety Critical, so no Recall.

So Dealers and Skoda UK can not contact anyone they do not have on their Computer System.

That might be the Registered  Keepers of the Earliest Cars that no Longer get Serviced at Main Dealers.

Just a 'Skoda Silent Service Campaign'.  If they can not be bothered to tell Registered Keepers of the cars

why would they tell some desk jockey at Skoda UK HQ.

Yet another email off to Alasdair Stewart:

Dear Mr Stewart

Further to my previous emails sent to you and Tom Chadwick I still have an outstanding issue with my vehicle and despite an ongoing effort to get things resolved I am still left concerned that the vehicle is not fit for purpose.

The issue relates to a metallic chain like noise emitted by the engine after engaging the throttle up to say 4500 revs and then disengaging the throttle and allowing the car to slow itself down through the revs. The noise is apparent in 2nd and 3rd gear as demonstrated to Winchester Motor Company's technician and lasts for approximately 3 seconds. This noise has only been evident since Sparshatts of Botley carried out an engine replacement in February. After which I should point out I had to go back for the gearbox settings to be updated as the car was suffering loss of power and non engaging gears as the settings were not updated correctly at the time of engine replacement i am led to believe.

I am still also waiting to find out whether the spark plugs were replaced when the engine was as I have on a number of occasions experienced a rocking sensation when the car is idling and a rough running from cold start and mis-firing. This is almost impossible to demonstrate as it occurs only a few times per week.

The technicians thoughts were that it is likely to be transmission related. After several demonstrations to several technicians at two dealerships I felt I was finally getting somewhere with this.

This was yesterday and I left the car with them for further investigation and for other issues being resolved.

Winchester Motor Company's service advisor (Nad) called me today and said they cannot find a fault after running a computer diagnostic check ( I already knew this from Sparshatts of Botley doing the same thing) and that it was my driving style causing the issue. I find this offensive and completely inappropriate. I explained to the service advisor and technician that it occurs under the conditions I have stated above and it does not require the car to be driven "hard", simply with a sufficient amount of throttle up to mid rev range. Even if the car were being driven spiritedly it is a highly tuned small car and should be willing and capable of being driven within its set limits without issue as any car is - this is simple mechanics.

My immediate response was that they have not checked the transmission and gearbox mechanically for faults that a computer diagnostic check would not pick up. To which they are unable to answer and unwilling to act upon. The dealer service advisor even said he thought they were doing me a favour and that I should go back to the dealership who replaced the engine. Are Winchester Motor Company not a franchised Skoda dealership capable of warranty work?

I am going round in circles here and am still wasting valuable time and money whilst being told the same answers from people who are clearly not competent at investigating this issue properly and don't know anymore than "plugging it in" and checking for fault codes. What about the mechanics of the gearbox which would not register a fault code... These people are acting completely ignorant to this valid point and appear to know less than I do about a product they are supposed to be selling and servicing.

I am at a stage now where I am sick and tired of this and would rather Skoda reimbursed me the circa £11300 paid for the car and take it off my hands so that I can take my business elsewhere and purchase I car that is fit for purpose and I can rely upon.

I have asked Tom Chadwick to either get a competent technician from Skoda UK to investigate this thoroughly and explain to me where this noise is coming from and what is causing it and what action if any needs taking. Either that or I expect Skoda UK to reimburse me as previously stated.

I would appreciate the assistance of yourself or your team to get this resolved properly once and for all.

As I have said previously I have never had such a bad experience with anything not just a vehicle and am completely disappointed and feel utterly let down by Skoda UK and it's dealerships.

Thank you for your time and apologies for contacting you on yet another negative note.

Kind regards

Was there not an issue with chain tensioners on the 1.4 tsi when it was fairly new? I know it's not exactly the same symptoms (that problem was very noisy during start and ok after) but it could be related?

Well done austen,

It needs sorting.

Gone are the days when a TOP mechanic could listen to your engine and gearbox and put his finger on the problem.

Today if "COMPUTER SAY NO" - then it f.... off Customer!

Tom also claimed to never have heard of the recall for changing the transmission oil...

Funny enough when I asked his right hand man Dan Wilson about the recall he had no knowledge of it either and had to check on the computer. As he put it he is not a member of technical lol

Considering these are part of Mr Stewart team you would think they would know about it.

They are scripted robots.

Dan Wilson deals with fibs when Tom Chadwick is off and Alasdair Stewart is running skoda uk

Fibs? Fabias?

That's interesting cause he's dealing with my new new mechatronics unit.

All he is handling is Emails & phones and some paperwork, their technical knowledge from Milton Keynes Customers Services Office seems to be Zero.

They are always having to refer to the Special Technical Team about something they have never heard of,

or is Over Blown on the internet or Briskoda Forum.

Funny thing is they tell the same thing about the same issues in the same week to various Briskoda Members.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

Never ever admit to a car owner you know the problem, it is a Design or Manufacturing fault by VW, and Skoda use the same components.

Oh lol I thought maybe he was quite high up.

He is, along with other Customer Services Managers & Senior Management.

Up Volkswagen Groups anus.

Well so far he's been very helpful to me. Got things moving within 24hrs whereas if I had left it to the dealer I wouldn't of got my car back until after the new year.

Dan Wilson dealt with my case and he is helpful with getting things moving. The only problem is that his technical knowledge is not good like George has said. I was told by him the Internet has over blown the oil consumption problems when I referred to this site

Just bumping this thread for anyone having issues with a car and Skoda UK Customer Services.

Since early 2018 the new top person at Skoda UK is Rod McLead.

He has been with VW Group for decades, so unless totally deaf dumb and blind can not be unaware of the issues with Warranties and long running engine or gearbox faults.

The Skoda UK CEO before him moved on to head VW Group in North America. The one before that has left the VW Group.

Possibly changed name and moved to Argentina?
