Just use some cling film on the electrics

Spray with APC...work in with a brush and wash away with a pressure washer..in short blasts

I always keep the engine running

Dry with a MF towel and spray some engine/ trim protector and wipe

Good luck

In theory the vast majority of the electrical connections in the engine bay should be ip7 rated or what're resistant in laymans terms, however I would cover up with the ignition components such as, crank sensor, coils ecu etc with cling film to protect them. Also I would cover the engine air intake to prevent moisture entering

I strongly disagree with Chris about washing engines with it running, it should be done with the engine cold enough to touch with your hand, if suddenly you quench a high temperature component like an exhaust manifold or turbocharger with cold water you are likely to cause cracks in the castings.

Thanks for your input Tom

I wasnt suggesting that the engine should be cleaned hot. That would be plain daft....merely running from cold after the APC/degreaser has been applied

I must admit guys - i don't like the idea of jet-washing the engine bay at all - i don't use this technique.

My personal preference is to keep a selection of microfibres ready for one last use;

then go round the engine bay with APC, detail brushes, etc and do it by hand.

Once cleaned - all the main rubber and plastics prep'd with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

In saying this - i have never had to start with a very dirty engine bay - which may require a good steam clean....

Its safer than you think...but common sense should always prevail

Most of the engine bays I've cleaned in recent years haven't needed a pressure washer except for mate's MX5

It came up well though with my described method above:

It does look a very easy engine bay to work in - it has to be said.

I was easy ...but took 1.5 hours from start to finish

...........anyway guys i sprayed some APC rinsed with a hose ,and then sprayed some 303 aerospace and came out like new.

Just to be on the safe side i covered the alternator and batteri ,and with a spray hose at lowest setting i just washed the engine down giving it heaps of water ,let it dry for 6 hours and no problems engine started straight away  :)

Well done

Nice work John! Top job.

hi guys the other day i started to feel that the gear stick is a bit stiff especialy with the 3rd gear ,can this have anything to do with the engine wash??????

Not likely ....I would say

Not likely ....I would say

could've pushed some debris into mechanism but that seems a small chance to me!

Weather a bit cooler today than the last few days and gears seem ok now ,could this have been a warm weather issue?
