Engine Management Light on, long travel in 2 hours

Featured Replies

Hi,

My X reg Fabia 1.4 16v 's Engine Management Light just on (not flashing), tried to turn on and off the engine, doesn't help. The car drive perfectly fine apart from the warning light. I believe I have to bring it to dealer to check it out. Searched the forum, it might because of the temperature sensor...

However, I need to travel from Colchester to Sheffield in about 2 hours, dealer is closed. Is it still safe to travel that long distance, with the "safe home management mode"???

PS my car is about to has it 10k services after 1.5k miles. Currently 44k miles on the clock.

Many Thanks in Advance

Louis

Could call AA if you are under warranty.

They can read and reset it.

Could call AA if you are under warranty.

They can read and reset it.

It is being warranted by an independent company, offered by Cargiant, when I bought the Fabia from them. :(

So do you have any break down cover??

I'd RAC it too if you have the cover. My old saxo vts started to overheat (read warning light came on) didn't take any chances.

better to be safe than sorry

I do. The one came from my Directline insurance (provided in association with Green Flag Motoring Assistance).

Go for it then.

If you have a new Fabia, even though bought from a third party company I would have thought it would still have AA cover.

My Fabia ain't new, is X reg, 44k miles on the clock. I should say lube service instead of 10k services from the post, sorry about the misleading. :(

Oh. Ok, well at least you have Green Flag. I would ask them if they can read or reset OBD codes when you call rather than wait around for them for no reason.

Breaking news!!!

If I turn the ignition on first (Engine Management Light will on at this moment), then turn the engine on, the warning light stay on. However, if I turn the engine on straight after I slot the key in, the warning light will not come on. So what would this be??? I am going to Sheffield now anyway, as I really needed to. Many Thanks for all the advise. Please wish me luck.

Car was alright last night, drove with no problem for 200 miles. This morning, the Engine Management Light did not came on, went to Sheffield dealer (very big one, compare to the one I went near Colchester, I am impressed) anyway. Dealer said it might because of a intermit false of one of the sensor, as he tried turn on/off engine few times without any warning light on. I guess it is fine for now, but I will let my local dealer has a proper check soon after I am back to Colchester.

BTW, when I was drining on A1 last night. I saw a pretty big dead animal body (can't recognitise what is it), half of it lay between slow and fast lane, another half is crushed to many pieces, blood every where. Blood was bright red, so it happenned not long ago. Thanks god, SWMBO can't see it as she was checking the grove box for no reason. Otherwise she must feel sick for the rest of the journey. May whatever it was rest in peace. :(

Did they actually plug into the ECU to check for a code though?

No. He said I sould fine for now, call AA if that light come on while driving, suggest me to bring it to local dealer for proper check. I did mentioned I come from Colchester, may be thats the reason he don't really bother......

Can that light indicate the brake light switch has packed up? On my old TDI the glow plug light came on when that happened.
