SE plus or Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi all I was looking to buy an elegance spec estate probably three years old in DSG but have been offered a one year old SE plus for a similar price. Is this a good deal. Should I take a newer SE Plus or go for an older elegance. not sure what the major differences are. the elegance I have been looking at are 11/61 plates the SE plus is on  13 plate. Anyone advise on differences and if the SE Plus is Ok spec wise?

Thanks

With me, it's bang-per-buck every time.  I want my car to be an experience, not an investment, so I'll always go for the highest spec I can afford, even if it means getting an older car.

Apart from the leather seats (and maybe the xenons), I'm not 100% sure what the differences are.  However, you can guarantee that if you get the SE you'll always be wanting the extra goodies that the Elegance has got.  Same with me: I've got an Elegance but lust after an L&K; I can live with this, though, as all L&Ks were well out of my price range when I bought.

Go for the Elegance.

For the xenon lights alone try go for the elegance.  If you have xenons already remember that going back to halogens is a massive step back, well IMO anyway as I do a lot of night driving.  I would imagine easier to sell on with leather as standard.

On the other hand what sort of mileage are you looking at on the two cars plus you have a warranty remaining on the SE, unless the mileage is huge.

Spec wise, well you're probably looking at 18s on the elegance versus maybe 16s on the SE for a start, which will make a difference to ride quality and a few other items as well which I'll leave those more familiar with UK spec to comment on

+1

The Elegance should have the Columbus which is a pretty good music & DVD player, + the sat-nav is properly integrated into the car.

I'm happy on 18" wheels, the ride is softer than SWMBO's Octy vRS with the same size tyres but the Superb really does hold on in the corners, just a little more roll if I'm trying to keep up with her.

Look. evaluate & decide, but try to buy the car you'll enjoy the most.

The elegance I have looked at are 25-30,000 miles. The SE Plus has 14,000 so both lowish. I am leaning towards the SE as this will be used on company business and I can only have a car upto 5 years old. That means I can keep it a bit longer

On this - as, indeed, on all things - let your heart rule your head.  Elegance every time.

Oh, by the way, I find the ride on 18s absolutely excellent; I would never swap.

I'm with Ned. Get the Elegance, and no probs at all here with the 18s either.

No noticeable compromise with18's here either. Go with the Elegance, its a very nice car to be in.

I'm going to go against the flow :giggle:

I was in exactly the same position as you 12 months ago.

Older higher mileage Elegance or newer lower mileage SE (not SE Plus).

Warranty, running costs, repairs and longevity were higher up my list than toys as I do 30,000 miles/year and run my cars until they die.

So it came down to the newer SE and I've not regretted it.

Remember the Superb is already very well specced.

I prefer the half leather/alcantara and more durable 17" alloys on the SE.

The xenons are great on the Elegance but I've fitted a HID kit. Not as good as OEM but much better than halogen.

YOLO.

I had to Google that which may also explain the difference of opinion

Spending less on my car allows me to spend my hard-earned elsewhere.

Sometimes there is more to life than bells and whistles.

I chose to sacrifice toys for warranty and longtime reliability.

I had to ask my daughter too but I'm in the comfort/toys/bells and whistles category. I really think this sort of decision is only one you can make for your own circumstances and preferences...

I like lots of toys.

Going to look at the SE Plus this afternoon. My head says this is too good a deal to turn down. I have got the price down by £1,000 and I am going to push for some free servicing. I will let you know how I get on. I am in a situation like Silver1011 I do a lot of mileage and also as this is the first DSG I have driven, I think the Skoda warranty may make me feel a little happier.

Latest update is I am now not going to see SE Plus as I have found out it is an ex rental car and this puts me off. Back on the look out for a DSG elegance estate. If any one sees one in Sandbach area under 3 years old (12 plate onwards), under 25,000 and about £16k let me know.

Ex-rental, or ex-fleet?

I have had loads of ex rental cars and they are usually off the fleet by 10k miles. Look for signs of accidents and for general mistreatment. Not had any problems with mine and they have been very well priced. Saying that, I have never had a Skoda ex rental car.

went for the Elegance, glad I did, love the little extra toys

Good choice, well done!
