Octavia I Elegance Climatronic problems

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time post here, hopefully I can find some answers.

I have Y Reg Octavia Elegance with Climatronic A/C system. I have owned the car since November of last year. All the way through the winter, it worked a dream with regards to A/C, lovely warm car. However, now we have had a few warmer days, I have begun to really use the cold settings on the A/C. However, it doesn't appear to be capable of actually cooling down the car, no matter whether its on 19, 18 or LO.

Today I have been to my local garage and the guys there had a crack at regassing the system. He came out to me and said that it should be showing about 750mg of gas but it was around the 525mg mark, however he said that would still be enough to make it cold, just not quite as cold as with 750mg. As a result he didn't put any more in there as he felt that it was probably an issue elsewhere. Now looking at various items online, both this site and elsewhere via a Google search, shows that this could mean an all manner of things.

Myself and Dad ran an diagnostic on the Climatronic unit and gave the following error codes:

214 00

4FA 00

000 00

I gather that 000 00 shows the end of the error codes. Looking online again, I found out that the 214 error codes means B+ Voltage...battery?

And that 4FA code is something to do with the Recirculation Flap Motor or similar. I also figure that if its to do with the Recirc Flap Motor, surely that wouldn't stop the unit from producing COLD air...?

The pollen and the air filters have also been replaced lately, a couple of months ago, as I saw that someone had suggested elsewhere that it could be to do with the pollen filter.

Any further suggestions chaps, any ideas greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

I would start by checking that the aircon clutch hasn't fallen off, and after that the wiring to the electo-magnetic clutch hasn't failed - this can become brittle.  After that the fans, I believe that both need to work when the aircon is turned on..,.

I will get it up on the ramps on Sunday and have a look underneath, I've found some photos online and on here of what it should look like with the clutch off, so hopefully it won't be too hard to spot!

Fans...on the radiator unit at the front or has the AirCon unit got fans on? Apologies, bit of a novice Octavia owner still!

Also, I have now managed to delete the errors from the Climatronic unit and its not showing any more errors at all now...most mystifing!

Thanks

Tom
