Gearbox rattle?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a noisy rattle which I'm getting when accelerating and when clutch is out. The noise goes away when I press the clutch in or lifting off from acceleration.

My thoughts are it could be the input shaft bearing. However some have said it could be the flywheel.

Not sure where I go from here or what the problem actually is.

Appreciate any help, cheers.

Ollie

Sounds like DMF to me

Sounds like thrust bearing to me.

Either way the box will need to come out, might as well replace the flywheel and 3 piece clutch while it's out anyway.

It's the cost that worries me on the flywheel and clutch Hutchy lol

Well if they are ok just replace the thrust bearing (or flywheel, whichever part is faulty)

It's just sort of false economy not to replace it while the gearbox is out since labour price is going to be playing a big part in it!

Shame to pay it twice if the clutch starts slipping in two weeks time. No way to know if it's going to start slipping either even on the bench, it will be worn but hard to tell how much is needed to take your power.

I priced mine up today as it needs replacing, was £370 for 3 piece clutch and dual mass flywheel, genuine Sachs parts so oem.

Yeah, think I'd only be able to afford standard one but cars mapped to 300-310lbs torque and around 165-170bhp, is this still ok for standard kit?

Perfectly fine yeah.

In my opinion anything under 200bhp will be fine with a standard setup.

I;m sure when I checked a couple of weeks ago Darkside were doing the complete kit (Sachs) for a VRS for about £270, although that could have been plus vat......or I could have been drunk!

Was that for an uprated kit? Or still OEM?

Think my sachs dmf and clutch and slave was £300 from carparts4less
