EGR delete?

Featured Replies

Ok so i know there is a few threads on Egr deletes etc but iv never really seen what im looking for... Does a Egr delete actually do anything different?. As i fitted mine couple of months ago as my egr was spilling out oil from the little whole and i havnt noticed no difference at all except for my engine sounding like its buggered when u turn it off. Help would be appreciated.

I don't really understand what it's all about either tbh, so I asked my friendly Skoda  techie friend who strongly advised against it.

Sorry, this is a few years ago now, and can't remember why he said a quite categorical "don't do it"

To say there's a 'few threads' would be an understatement! Yes, an EGR delete does do stuff, it increases your emissions, fuel consumption and raises mean EGT which is bad for VNT turbos.

In other words it doesn't do anything useful at all but it does look pretty and stops more soot sticking to the oil residue in your plenum if you haven't bypassed the engine breather.

No-one has been able to measure any performance increase from this mod at all, so I say don't do it just because you can.

May take it off then. Is the elephant mod worth doin?

I wouldn't remove it personally. Just clean the EGR and inlet manifold then fit an inline oil catch can or do the pikey 'elephant' mod to reduce the amount of oil vapours getting back into the system. It's the combination of oil vapours and soot from the exhaust fumes that cause all the gunk to build up.

WHAT in the name of all things Holy, is an 'ELEPHANT mod'?  :o   :D

Think im guna clean my egr take the inlet of and give that a good clean. Do the pikey elephant mod or add a oil catch can then take the egr delete off seems really pointless to me
