Mods for a PPD170/TDI VRS estate

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So for 12 years I have been tanking around in 2003/2004 90/110 non PD lumps that have had a fair few and reasonably low cost mods and tweaks available to play with such as injectors, VCDS tweaks, EGR delete, fuelling tweaks, dogbone mounts, etc etc.

So now I have a 2007 2.0 TDI VRS 170PPD lump. What can I do to this? I cant find much. It seems to me the DPF and the naff injectors mean it cant be played with in the same way. Am I right? I am bored... Had it 5 months not done anything with it....

dpf delete and a remap?

Can you delete the DPF for MOT reasons?

Lower it? DPF delete is an MOT fail... Unless it's done very well and the tester cannot see the weld lines. Not sure if there is a sports cat available for the Octavia?? Could go for a bigger air feed, CAIS or cone?

I have the diesel too... My last Diesel Mondeo was heavily modified with a lot of custom parts having to be made. Felt awesome!! Will do some performance mods to the Octavia eventually...

A DPF delete will transform the car, especially if it is an older / higher mileage example.

The MOT concern has been done to death (several times) on here and the fact is that unless the MOT tester can 100% confirm the DPF is absent (without more than a visual check) then it can't be failed, he can issue an advisory confirming his suspicions but no more. There may be weld lines on the DPF casing, the car may also no longer record a 0% reading on the soot test but these don't confirm without doubt the DPF has been removed = no fail.

Now the rules may change in the future but as it stands there are no issues as long as you keep the DPF casing and don't go for a 'straight through' conversion.

Insurance is another thing, but again this is down to your own personal thoughts on the likely implications of driving a non-declared modified car.

If you plan to keep the vRS long term then you will suffer DPF issues at some point in the future, whether you do longer runs / high mileage or not so take it out now and enjoy a more free flowing engine, improved MPG and more enjoyable drive.

As it happens when I suffered DPF (and other related issues) I decided to move the car on and by a CR instead, due mainly to the potential complications highlighted above
