Reliable Citroen ZXs

Featured Replies

My two cars before the furby were both Citroen ZX Turbo Ds. The first of these was an L reg, sold 8 years ago at 87K, and the second was an R reg, which I sold 3.5 years ago at 136K.

Bizarrely I've had news of both of them on the same day. The older one (which I've not seen for the past 8 years) drove past me on the Coventry Ring Road this evening.

The later one was responsible for the rather worrying NIP (for a red light camera) on my doormat today. The police say they don't want to prosecute me as they know I'm not the keeper any more, but want to know who I sold it to. (They sent me a similar letter with a speeding NIP about two years ago so if they didn't suceed back then I wish them luck after two more years).

However I'm impressed that the reliability of the ZX means they're both still going, especially since they had already had a fair few miles on them when I sold them.

One of my first regular cars was an M plate 1.9TD Aura. Decent car for me really, given I'd only just passed my test. It went well, and was very reliable too.

my second car was a zx 16v. Loved it. The only problem i had was quite major though, the accelerator stuck one time and i narrowly avoided a major pile up on the a34 nr oxford !

such fun to drive though, and pretty quick for its time. much better than the same platform 306 gti6 :)

my friend had a white ZX Volcane, the 160 bhp 20 16v one (engine from the pug 405 Mi16 I believe) this was a surprisingly fast car, it would embarass some modern hot hatches today! only problems he had was the head gasket going three times! (he ran it from 40,000 up to 120,000 miles......)

If that was the case then why is the 306 regarded as a classic, and the ZX not? Dont get me wrong, I like the ZX, but the GTI-6 is a better car, it looks better, it has more power (155 bhp for the ZX and 167 bhp for the 306), and the 306 has a 6 speed box.

Anyway, my dad had 4 ZX's (1.4 Reflex, 1.4 Avantage, 1.9D Aura and 1.9 TDI Volcane), and he had very little trouble with any...

The Volcane was the 8v 'sport' ZX

The 16v was the 16v version :D

My HG went once too..it was the same engine from the 306 GTi6 - dunno if the MI16 used the same or not.

I dunno, coz very few were made in comparison? Cant answer your question on other peoples perceptions of the car.

All I know is I drove both on track several months before I bought, and I preferred the ZX. I dont know if it was to do with set up, weight, I honestly dont know, it just felt better.

And as for 'looks' better. Id argue. Pretty subjective that.
