Bi Xenon Controller Problem?

Featured Replies

Just spoken with SUK , apparently the dealer should put me in a car the same size as the one i'm in , and the Tech Bulletin i was shown was only step one of the fault finding / fixing process.

Hi All,

There are two technical bulletins regarding headlamp issues on A7 Octavia's.

Unfortunately without correct fault codes within the ECM the bulletin regarding replacement of the Bi-xenon control unit cannot be carried out. These fault codes do not always manifest themselves at first and sometimes they have to 'develop' to carry out the correct diagnosis.

This problem is a known one, but the dealers cannot carry out any repairs without following the correct process as set out by the Factory. And especially with this repair the factory is checking every replacement for quality purposes.

I understand this can be frustrating and sometimes seems over fastidious by a dealer, but it is the process that the factory has put in place to reduce the chances of misdiagnosis.

I hope this helps.

Hello!  Can we assume you work for SUK?

And does the above mean that new cars coming out of the factory now should not suffer from this problem?

My car had no recorded faults apparently but they still changed the controller?

Hi. The dealer should not have done that unless technical were involved? Technical sometimes advise a dealer to 'bypass' the system as instructed by the factory.

It's common sense to assume that the vehicle requires the repair but the dealer is at risk of not being rembursed by SUK if the process is not followed.

I don't work for Skoda UK but I have worked within the VWG (Skoda, VW & Audi) network for more years than I care to remember.

Skoda have told the dealer to hire me an estate, if they cannot source one.

As for replacing the controller that is what will be happening, if SUK know that only a replacement controller will fix it then shame on them.

Bit of an update my car was at a different Skoda garage today, now initially they didn't find any error messages until they drilled down to component level and boom the errors were there all along,  they had ordered the controller in but it seems i'm special and my error message is one they haven't seen before.

So they are contacting Skoda tech Monday to get the go ahead to change bulbs, controller, and anything else that will fix the problem, (ie) guessing :) but in a good way at least they are doing more than the supplying dealer.

It is getting a bit ridiculous with the MQB platform, it is as if the majority of dealers have not had enough training to diagnose faults correctly.

You shouldn't get a different diagnosis between 2 different dealers.

True they even thought they hadn't updated any software.
