Koni Or Not

Featured Replies

All

While you've all been enjoying yourselves in South Wales on the day out at the weekend I've been thrashing round Southern Ireland, a Welsh Forest Stage is smoother then some of the roads over in Ireland. So after scrapping and bouncing around to much I've come to the conclusion; replace the suspension before xmas, which I when I go out of the country again.

Now the advice I'm after: Has anyone fitted Koni Adjustables to the Octy yet and when fitted has the front end sat any higher? And one more thing, is it true that when the Motorsport guys tuned the chassis all they did was upgrade the springs, if so are the springs worth keeping, I'm not bothered either way but if there a good spring.......

In advance, thanks for any replies and help on this.

I think a couple of people have tried Konis in their Octys but IIRC found them too bouncy.

I have the Konis in my Fabia and the ride is slightly firmer, but handling and feel are much improved. I have them on near soft setting most of the time.

Initial slight bounciness on motorway undulations and dips, cured with a bit trimmed from the bump stops.

I dont think the Konis would work with standard springs as I think the struts are shorter than standard.

I went with Konis/Eibach on recommendation from Jabba.

What about KW - a few have gone down this route.

It's better suspension control you need - not increased ride height - increasing the ride height will have an effect on the centre of gravity - and therfore the handling.

It is always adviseable to change component's as matched unit's ie. Springs and shocks rather than just shocks or just springs.

If you were only going to change 1 item - you would probably be better of fitting better springs - although they usually involve dropping the height slightly - the better car control resulting from this would be worth it.

But why not go the whole hog and fit a set of KW's -- you can alter ride height on those if you are going to travel on particularly bad roads -- but then there would be quite a difference in cost

Matthew,

Did you mean Konis with the standard springs??

BTW - if possible, could you PM me the cost of the Konis with the Eibachs, if you don't mind telling me? I have a cost for just the Eibachs fitted and was wondering how much extra the shocks would be.

Cheers,

It's a very,very slippery slope Howard

Curiosity has the better of me. Plus it would be interesting to check against the KW's. Doesn't mean I have extra budget approval! And I still have to find the day off to go to Crowland for the Eibachs. :(

Oops :o

Post just edited - I meant konis with standard springs..

I also talked with Elton about Eibach dampers (15% uprated, Koni 25% uprated) however the Eibach dampers are non adjustable.

Will PM you details.

Skoda NL have launched an official aftermarket sports suspension that pairs Konis with MAD springs. Because of the usual full warranty etc. I would be interested for my company car, as I already have the MAD springs.

So which slope is more slippery - the Konis or the full KW V2?

If I hazard a guess - Koni cheaper but less effective?

KW's very much slippier  -- but then you pays your money you makes your choice....

UK price for KW's variant 2 for vRS - is around

Yup, as usual, you get what you pay for, and you buy what you can afford.

Or make do with what you've got cos you've blown all your spare cash already :(

What's that then?? I tend to use the bank's cash!! :D

Hmm, I see that a set of adjustable yellow sport Konis cost 700 euros over here. Not exactly cheap either...

Yes, Mattijs, from what Matthew has told me, the Koni shocks are more than the Eibach springs, although I suppose they are more complex to produce.

I have Koni yellows with Neuspeed Sofsport springs. Ride is great and handling is awesome. The front will sit higher if you don't remove the steel spacers in the front. The Neuspeed instructions said to remove them, but I somehow missed that in the installation.

I reckon you got to go the KW route.......these are well proven by quite a few here.

Not saying Koni or Eibach are bad just that there is more experience of people having the KWs and being very pleased.

That's said going the Koni or Eibach isn't a bad thing as it just adds to the knowledge pool.

Will get the KWs but not yet. What to choose though:confused: .

I have a Koni setup on my RS they are OK but there isn't enough adjustment in them. They are either on or off if you know what I mean? With hindsight I would have gone for a KW setup.

Eibach - Koni is a combination even MTM proposes... (if you don't go for their fully adjustable suspension kit).

I have fitted them to my Octavia and I'm very, very satisfied ...

Fitted also the front wishbone bushes from Powerflex and an OMP strut brace, and the car's handling is almost perfect...

Well you see, I go to work and all these threads happen;

Speedy G; I wouldn't mind sorting a PM giving more detail.

I know it was worth putting the posting up.
