Scratches on the C pillar

Featured Replies

Just got back from holiday and I've found some light scratches on one of the C pillars - I suspect from some clumsy loading of the top box as they seem to be too irregular to be from the hedgerows scrapping along the side of the car (and fortunately there's no sign of damage to the paintwork).

I'm hoping they will polish out but has anyone else had this problem and if so can they recommend a suitable product - I don't want to use something inappropriate and make matters worse or flatten the gloss finish.

In the worst case scenario - how difficult is it to replace the plastic trim or is it a case of "If you have to ask - don't even try it".

Thanks

Put a post on the detailing section of the board, I asked the same question a while back and someone recommended a gtechnic product iirc. I've searched for the post but can't seem to find it.

A machine polish usually sorts this kind of stuff out! Hand polishing will do the same just a lot more time and effort was it either g1 or g5?

I use Gtechniq P1 Nano polish for this on mine, with a tri-foam applicator. Takes a bit of elbow-grease, but does the trick.

Thanks all for the advice. A first try with the resin polish that came with the Lifeshine has made things look a lot better so I think it will give the Gtechniq a try. I think I'll be safer with the elbow grease method than any sort of mechanical assistance and its not a big area to do..

They're not difficult to replace if you find this is the only option. Think you have to remove the rear light (held on by 2 or 3 torx screws) and then there's two screws that hold on the C pillar cover. Can't remember the cost, but it wasn't that expensive.

I did it when I had to replace it and the rear light after a gate jumped out and hit the wife's car a few years back  :swear:

£30? needed one but via the French Parts system

I'm glad you reminded me, my Yeti got hit on the gloss plastic trim to the right of the tailgate by a falling slate in the storms before xmas and scraped it and left a gauge on the edge, I bought a micro-mesh kr70 kit from ebay after research on the net. It is a repair kit that they use for polishing windscreens on light aircraft and I have just completed the repair and also polished out some scratches on my nearside c pillar and I can report apart from a flat spot on the edge of the rear panel as I had to go quite deep to get the gouge out it is now all nice and shiny.

Where I bought my kit from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Micro-Mesh-kr70-complete-polishing-kit-for-plastics-wood-acrylic-perspex-etc-/191170609457?pt=UK_Crafts_Other_Crafts_EH&hash=item2c82a80131
