VRS seat retrofit into Elegance.. Airbag options?

Featured Replies

Right ive just brought another octavia.. this time a mark 1.. its an elegance but has retrofitted Vrs seats.... obviously with airbag fault due to lack of seats having any..

What are the options to bypass this issue??

I have been given the original seats 2.. thus have the airbags etc..

Is there a way to use VCDS (which I have) to code the module to think its a VRS???

Is it an easier job to fit the airbags into retro seats???

Or are there any other options ive overlooked???

Cheers.

Dunno if you can code them out or not, might need a vrs style airbag controller instead.  The easiest option is to stick the standard Elegance seats back in (or at least for the MOT, as I believe an airbag light on the dash is a failure).

I believe you can code them out.

Yeah I could stick the old seats back in for test purposes but ideally if I can figure out another way to code..

Trundlenut!! never too far in matters of VCDS!!.. have you come across anyone who has done this??? I cant seem to find definite answer.. in theory if can just tell the airbag module its actually in a vrs rather than an elegance than it would no longer try to communicate with seat airbags.

Doing this seems a little more complex. ..

The coding seems different no installation list n no long coding helper... just asks for 4 or 5 digit number if I remember.

None of the controllers in the mkI support long coding IIRC. Each option has a numerical value and you add them together to give you the coding. Drivers airbag may be +6 whilst the passenger airbag is +4 and seat airbags +2, which would give say 00010 for driver and passenger and 00012 for seat airbags too.

You should get a box pop up with the options and values in it to use.

Just had a look at our Leon, you deactivate the airbags through adaptions not coding.  If you go into adapations in the airbag controller there is an option to deactivate each airbag individually.

Really... what a relief mate that addition stuff went straight over my head so vcds go into long adaptation... im assuming your leon is of similar age???

Vcds is much easier on mk2s than the mk1s..

I hope it is as your leon... would save alot of bother

Cheers for the help mate

Yes you can adapt them out. The airbag light will flash before it goes out to show something has been deactivated in the ECU.

Yes our mkI Leon is based on the mkIV golf platform same as the mkI Octavia.

Yep ur a star mate...

had a play about and as you said mate I was able to disable both side airbags!!! Woohoo

Still comes up with a fault code

Which just state that both are disabled , also causing the airbag light to flash 6 times upon ignition before eventually going out..

Is this something that cant be avoided do you know..

I suppose adding resistors to fool the controller into thinking the airbags are still there.

Otherwise, as scan of a mkI vrs to see what is different between the between the controllers would be useful, although I don't have one.  I have a Leon Cupra scan knocking around but I sure that had seat airbags - actually it definitely did as the airbag light was on because of one airbag getting disconnected.

I fitted 3w 4.7 ohm resistors to mine after fitting a different set of seats. Total cost £1.20 and now no airbag light

Tbh I think ill beable to get it through a taxi plate with 6 blinky if not than resistors sounds good

I started this thread to see what the difference is in terms of part numbers and coding between the elegance and vrs, what's the VCDS output for your car?

I suspect the controller is different as the part number is different between the vrs and our Leon but it would be good to see if yours is the same as the Leon.

So looking at the part numbers and coding we have the following

mkI VRS - sans seat airbags.
