Monthly Cost for Rapid/Octavia?

Featured Replies

I bought an Octavia vRS TDi which was delivered two months ago and I haven't stopped smiling.  What a brilliant car.  It has ended up saving me a fortune in petrol over my old Alfa MiTo Cloverleaf, with a record 62mpg on one 40 mile journey... yet there seems to be little trade-off in performance!

My dad has got the urge for a new car, and whilst he isn't keen on my bright green Octavia or the go-faster badges, he's keen on the Rapid/Octavia 1.2 TSi / 1.6 TDi.  He is looking to chop in his current VW Polo which will have very little equity, and keep the payments around £150-180 per month.  Is this even remotely do-able on the base model Octavia or Rapid's, or would he need to put in a chunky deposit?  I'm looking for an indication of cost before talking further with the stealer's/Carwow etc.

The Skoda website gives indicative figures.

For Octy they are saying monthly repayments start at £145, but thats with a deposit of £4688.82

Thats for an Octavia S, 1.2TSI

Of course, thats assuming you dont get any money off.

There are quite a few low mileage 1.2TSI Rapids on Autotrader for under 10k - could be worth considering a year old car rather than new.

Do consider though that a Rapid is only a Fabia on the inside. I was thinking the Octy may be a little too big and as it was being serviced I thought I'd check out a Rapid Spaceback in the showroom. I was very disappointed when I sat inside and just went, it's a Fabia in a slightly bigger set of clothes. Don't get me wrong, I've had two of the little cars and still own one today, but I was expecting more from the Rapid which is supposedly a new model whereas the Fabia has now been with us for seven years.

On a base S model as said above easily possible but with a larger deposit.

If you wanted to go for an Octavia SE 1.6 TDI it seems a bit of a push, using a quick calculator and some GFVs for that model gives a rough figure of £215 a month, deposit of £2500 and GFV of £9540 all over 36months. That assumes no negotiating, with getting 6% off the brochure price you should be able to see a figure just over £180.

It's well worth putting it all through Car Wow, spec up a few different options on the models you are interested in, then when the replies come in ask them if they can provide some figures for PCP deals. I got quite a few garages that came back with figures, some actually provided full official quotes. Then it's easy enough to know what you should aim for with the dealers when you go in person.

Could lease one. Lots of deals on them on contract hire and leasing.com

They were doing the VRS for £208 inc VAT a while a go with £1800 deposit.
