ABS Sensors and Clearing Codes

Featured Replies

Background: My ABS and ASR lights started coming on above 40mph. After being parked and restarted, the lights go off. Nothing too unusual, took it to a garage who diagnosed the O/S/F wheel speed sensor and replaced it. However, they didn't even test it before they sent it back out again, and as soon as I got up a bit of speed the light came on again! I wasn't impressed by the garage's attitude when I called up, so decided they're not having any more of my ££ if they can't even be bothered to test faults after fixing them!

I'm now working on the hypothesis that it may be the ring on the hub and I'm looking for somewhere else to take it where they'll do some decent diagnostics.

Actual Question: I have read that some faults do not reset themselves fully and need to be reset even after a sensor is replaced. If the ABS light goes off after being parked and comes on above 40mph, I assume this is effectively resetting the code? So resetting the code with eg. VCDS is not neccesary after replacing the sensor? Just want to be sure the problem is still actually there and not a lingering fault code . . .

Thanks,
CJC

From reading other posts this should reset itself. Could be rusty hub.
