Speccing a Car is an Interesting Business

No, but they do alter it based on the trim level, which is where I came in...  :p

By the way, I do like your options list.  Well, except the girly parking tool... sorry couldn't resist.

girly parking tool...

Unfortunately, until the MY15 options list came out, it was the only way to get front parking sensors (certainly on vRS).  I've ordered it too, and I'll probably use it once or twice just to see it in action, but I can't see point in farting about with something like that to be honest.  Considered changing my order to just the sensors when the MY15 list came out, but didn't seem worth it as I'd only save £100 at that point, and I wouldn't get the side sensors.

As an honest man, I have to say (once I've stopped chuckling) that even though my wife was the one who was keen on that particular extra, my inner geek is strong and I CANNOT wait until I can try it out. Whether I'm the "driver" or not, you can  guarantee a video will be made of it in action. :D

The way I saw it, was £3k of discount off list price, plus £500 deposit contribution and free servicing, effectively brought my car with options down from £24k to £20k which at the time was still £2k less than list price before options, so I got the car I wanted to sit in for 4 years or 90k miles rather than one that I almost wanted to sit in! Over this mileage, as long as it is worth more than £4,500 after 4 years then I win as my car allowance is footing the finance and insurance payments and that is what I'll owe after 4 years as financed over 5 yrs, mileage allowance relief also more than pays for servicing and tyres, so hopefully no major risks as included 4 yr warranty in the deal. If it holds value as well as Superb II, I should have a good deposit on next car as my old Berb had a trade value of £8.8k at 4 years with 88k on the clock!

I'm only jealous.  I will await the video with interest.  Just maybe,  the girly parking system would have saved me a curbed alloy...maybe even two curbed alloys.

Enjoy your motor, it'll be grand.

I went through the same process, starting with an SE then adding extras and realising I was better off getting an Elegance.

I specced a car in the UK similar to one of our Aussie spec ones, and it appears it's actually cheaper for us to buy the equivalent model. Surprising since outside vw/Skoda we pay lots more for pretty much everything!

Sorry to hear about the alloy(s).

I started second-guessing myself about the Park Assist, and came close to cancelling it (perhaps to be replaced by the powered boot on the basis that would get a lot of use). However, the parking sensors are £300, so I think I might as well stump up the extra £275. (That, and the fact that SWMBO thinks the powered boot is a waste of money!)

It's like they know what they're doing, and just how to squeeze more money out of us!

What squeeze ? I paid £20,305 for my Elegance with warrantee, breakdown & service thrown in

I have just ordered (25/05) the 2.0l tdi elegance hatch in Race Blue. I have been told it is in build week 24 and I should have it in the middle of July. I decided to go for the 17" Hawk wheels, led rear light and cornering fogs.

today the dealer called me to say that there was a problem with the order as I hadnt ordered the black sports pack option at £340. I have decided to go with that as I really liked the wheels although I am concerned that may be making a mistake.

Does anyone else know if you have to have this option with the Hawk wheels. I have emailed Skoda to ask.

if I dont then I think I will call the dealer.

My point being that if we'd have chosen SE spec, we'd have paid less. As it is, you add a couple of things to the SE spec, and heck, you might as well go for, and pay for, the Elegance spec.

Crikey, that's more precise than what I was told when I ordered over the B/H weekend. And very, very short timescales! I was told a very vague, but will be confirmed later, July/August though with hindsight, I don't know whether that was build or delivery.

Regarding the Hawk alloys, I ordered them without the Sport Pack (Black). While that pack does mention the Hawk alloys, you can add them in two other places within the configurator: the wheel page (shocker!) and the accessories one. I will definitely throw a hissy fit if someone gets in touch saying the Sport Pack is a requirement. £90 extra for some black covered wing mirrors and some stupid stickers on the bottom of the doors?! No thank you!!

So if you do hear anything, Mark, can you let me know, please? Ta!

Thanks for replying Ian.

when I placed my order the dealer told me they had some in the pipeline and it depended if we were early enough in the build process they could change the spec of one. I popped in on Saturday to get a better idea and they told me it was definitely in week 24. I am really looking forward to it arriving now!

As for the sports pack it isnt a £90 extra it is £340 I believe.

I spent ages on the configurator speccing the car in different colours etc but it always came back to race blue with the Hawk wheels option. When the sales guy called me last night in the office I just couldnt think how it would look. Having now looked on the configurator I still cant make my mind up whether it is worth it. A further £340 for some black plastic does seem excessive.

Spoke to Skoda UK today and they told me that because my car will be MY15 that the option choices have changed and I cannot have the Hawk wheels without ordering the sports pack . I am a bit dissapointed.

I have now decided to change back to the std wheels as £340 for some bits of black plastic did seem too much to me.

Build is next week and I cant wait to take delivery in July. :-)

Hawk wheels are only £140 each as an accessory buy, so if you plan to get a set of winters you could put them on your std rims and fit the Hawks with the summer tyres.

  • 2 weeks later...

As we were so close to build the dealer put the sports pack on the order as I initially said ok. They tried to change the order but Skoda said it was too late so the car is coming with the pack fitted. Not sure it is what I wanted but the dealer has agreed to basically pay for it so I hope it looks good. On the plus side I get the Hawk wheels I wanted.

I have been looking at it on the configurator again and it is growing on me. The trouble is that I haven't seen a real one with the pack fitted so it is all guess work. Could be an omen!

The car is being built this week so I only have a few more weeks to wait to find out.

I cant wait now.

Hi Mark, somehow missed your last update. At least you're not having to pay for the sports pack :) Make sure you post plenty o'pics when your car arrives!

I've just had the same news from my dealer - no Hawks without the styling pack. This is a crying shame as I love the look of those wheels. Not sure why as frankly I'm never that bothered by wheels, and haven't ever bought aftermarket ones.

As for the sports pack it isnt a £90 extra it is £340 I believe.

I think what I was hoping for was that the £340 included the cost of the Hawk alloys (£250) therefore the black plastic bits were an extra £90. Not so!  :swear:

I will put some pics up so other can see what one looks like with the pack fitted.

The sales guy said he wouldnt put the order in immediatley as he was going to be off for a couple of days but I think due to the iminent build week they put it through the next morning so I didn't get any time to think about it. I think this is why they have offered the 50%. I could have rejected it and ordered a new one but that would have taken 10 to 12 weeks (he said!) and they would have been left with the original car.

On the configurator it looks quite sporty but if that was what I was really trying to get then I should have gone for the VRS (not sure I could have waited 6 months though!).

Its £340 for the hatcback but £390 for the Combi I think + the £250 for the wheels.

It is the first new car I have bought so I was playing around with the configurator all week before I went in. I was desparately trying not to get too carried away!

I think it will look good when it  arrives.

I now have the configurator picture as my wallpaper on my tablet (sad!!). I dont seem to be able to attach the image to this post but I will find out how to.

Only a couple more weeks hopefully.

Ian

This is the configurator view

Nowt wrong with that! Excepting the fact that I need to change mine as my wallpaper has Hawk alloys on  :S

I take it you didnt want to pay the extra for the sports pack? It is a tough choice. I'm not sure why Skoda put the two options together. It seems daft to me. There arent dependent on each other and you can still add the wheels separately on the configurator without selecting the pack.

I haven't been bothered by wheels before, in fact these are my first set of alloys. I now need to be very careful!

Did you decide on white?

when will you get it?

I keep waiting for the dealer to call to say mine has arrived. Not long now though! :-)

It won't be the first time SUK have decided to clump options together so you "have" to have something you might not want.  In the case of SWMBO's Citigo, she wanted parking sensors.  Only comes with CitySafe (which she didn't want).  Luckily they could be dealer fitted although the display doesn't come up on the PID but she still gets the bleeps..

Nope, not paying £390 for a few bits of stuck on plastic

I have decided to stick with Race Blue in the end, which is a good thing seeing as I will have the silver alloys now!

I don't have a build week yet, and if the 8-12weeks is true, then perhaps I'm looking at a 64 reg...

I'm looking forward to see the pics when you get it :)
