Strange noise - help please

Featured Replies

My CR 110 SE 10 plate 36000 mile Yeti has, in the last couple of days, started to make a noise exaclty like dragging a length of scaffolding pipe down the road on a piece of rope! It is not constant but it is frequent. I find it hard to replicate but it seems to start on left hand corners but once started it can stop and then restart on straight bits of road. I have checked underneath before anyone asks and no, there is nothing untoward down there. The noise is similar to that which some of us older members may remember when our rusty exhaust pipes finally gave way and it was dragged down the road under the car. But this noise is slightly different and is as I said earlier, like dragging a piece of scaffolding pipe on a rope.  My front O/S brake disc is scraping a bit probably on the caliper but that is a totally different pitch and type of noise and is being sorted.

Any sensible suggestions please as I can find nothing that would cause it.

Sounds like you've picked up a stone, stuck between calliper and disc or trapped in dust shield.

Yup, almost certainly that. Try reversing and tapping the brake and then forwards and the same. Repeat a few times. Think that's sorted it for me in the past.

Have you transported any youths recently? If so, you might want to check the CD player. Your description sounds rather like the stuff my lad listens to.

Thanks for the 2 sensible answers. As for other one what can I say!

I have had the same, as said its a stone which gets inside the centre of the hub. I had to take the calliper of to get the stone out. This has happened twice now.
