Boost Whistle after remap - please have a listen.

Featured Replies

Hi all, had my car remapped today at shark and it drives lovely. Only concern I have is the whistle which the turbo is making and whether or not this is to be expected. This has only been like this since leaving Shark today.

My boost pipes are all as solid as they come, intercooler is pretty much brand new and turbo is new within last 10,000 miles. EGR is also deleted and it is a BLT engine.

Apologies for the lengthy video (just under 2 mins). You'll probably need to listen to all of it to here the bits where I have been able to put my foot down slightly.

Please could I have your opinions on this noise?

Thanks in advance!

You will get more turbo noise due to the increase in boost pressure now its remapped.

Has the turbo been set up correctly? Stop screw and actuator?

I hope so mate as it was done at skoda. Appreciate that doesn't mean a great deal though. I wouldn't have a clue how to do this might have to read up on the net?

Take it back to Shark then, it's not acceptable.

It was a warranty replacement turbo replaced by skoda earlier this year. This whistle has only become this prominent since I had it remapped today. I'd have hoped shark would have picked up on this in all honesty if there is something wrong.

Just corrected some typos in my OP, sorry chaps if this was a bit misleading.

That sounds borked to me!

Mind you, it depends how much boost its running now. Doesn't sound healthy though, almost like you have a boost leak somewhere, hole in the exhaust flexi or something?

Well I've checked the boost circuit when I got home today and I've almost replaced all the pipes in the past anyway. Everything looks solid. I agree it doesn't sound healthy at all but certainly nothing like when my turbo failed previously.

Only obvious think I spotted was a damaged vacuum hose going to the actuator but it wasn't pierced through, I still replaced it as a matter of caution.

I can't find anything like this on the forum or the Internet if I'm honest! Lol

Sounds promising... lol

Anyone recommend a company in the derby area that could supply and fit a new one?

I'm still surprised that shark have mapped it and not said a word about this noise...

I would have thought Shark would have done a "health" check of some description beforehand surely. Check some logs maybe?

Well I've sent them two emails to make some enquiries so will see if they have any feedback now I've raised the issue.

Thing is, what it is doing now is like a massively amplified version of the noise it was making anyway before the remap. I drive the car 150 miles a day so I pretty much know every knock rattle and squeak like the back of my hand lol.

Shark aren't particularly active on the forum these days and I would call them, easier for them to deal with a phone call :)

Spoke with shark today, they are having the car in on Friday to have a look at it. What I have found strange is that I got my Mrs to rev the car whilst I listened under the bonnet and I've just taken the car to the petrol station and back and dropped her off at work and the sound is nowhere near as bad. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad sign...?
