cylinder head bolts

Featured Replies

Guys I am planning on getting a new head gasket fitted soon due to a coolant lose issue. I have seen a few topics where people recommend changing the cylinder head bolts to those fitted to the ARL 150bhp engine. My dealer says the 130 and 150bhp use the exact same bolts so why do people change them?

I guess they should be renewed when fitting the gasket?

The dealer is wrong. Pd130 bolts have 10.9 tensile rating. 150 is 12.9 so stronger.

Oh and always renew as they are stretch bolts.

Unless they have upgraded the replacement 130 bolts to 150 bolts now your dealer is wrong.

The orig 130 bolts are 10.8 tensile, the 150 bolts are 12.9 tensile.

So 150 bolts are stronger and stretch less :)

Cheers guys. Anyone have the part number for the 150 bolts?

Talking to the dealer there again. He says the same part number is coming up for the 130 and 150 bolts. He cant go back and check if the 130 ones were replaced with 150 ones...

Thats the retail price from VW and there isnt much of a discount code for them. £5.56 plus VAT is best price I got.

I called Seat. They were cheaper!! They must not sell the 130 studs anymore just the 150/160 ones.

depends what u want out of the engine serious build ect

I am pushing PD150 bolts as hard as they can probably be pushed for a daily driver and suffering no head lift / coolant loss - and that's with 2.7 bar of boost.

Decided for the sake of £30 compared to the hassle of the head gasket going I will just buy the PD150 bolts for when I fit my 2260vk
