My new car has some issues...

Featured Replies

So I get my new Octavia L&K 55 plate on Friday and was pretty happy although there was some external cosmetic damage which I intend to fix but service history and the internal condition is good so I purchased it.

However now I have encountered the following problems:

  • Seat belt sensor warning..seems like if its pressed in its fine.
  • AC not working
  • Was told timing belt needs changing in 20k miles (I know I should read the service book) but it was changed at 58K and now the car has 125K which means it needs to be changed now.
  • I also now find a leak today...in the passenger side at the bottom of the pillar above the dash (photo attached).

I contacted the trader (V12 Sports in Hinckley) who tell me to take their approved garage but I wanted to know if I have case for rejecting the car. I really don't have the time at the moment to keep going back and forth to a garage in Hinckley (I live in Birmingham) and especially if they start giving me the run around. I have booked the car and with the garage but they seemed pretty unhelpful with dates and didn't seem all that interested.

Where do I stand with this? can I reject the car or should I give them a chance to fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

None of those things give you a reason to reject surely, they were all there when you viewed it and test drove it.

It is a 9 year old car, buyer beware.

Or did they mislead you in some way?

If the car is unsafe,

then see how they intend putting that right, and if they are not,

contact Trading Standards.

Id say you are going to have to give them a chance to fix it,are they going to replace the timing belt? Has the car had a replacement windscreen recently? if so it may not be properly bonded in & may be the source of your water leak, the door seals on the octavia are not the best at times as well. If the fix the air con keep a eye on it as the may just re-gas it rather than fix a leak, the compressors are a weak point on the octavias.

I understand the car is old but the faults were not apparent at the time. The exterior condition although required work I could see and accepted. O course I will give them the chance to fix. They did say the 1000 miles are also under warranty should any faults occur.

I have booked the car to be looked at so hopefully they will sort out the issues but I am straight forward guy and if I had purchased with faults known I wouldn't complain just get them fixed myself which I have contemplated but the AC could be an expensive fix...

Friend of mine brought an A4 avant from there, with in a week the engine had failed (cam follower picked up). they dealt with it pretty well though and quickly refunded his money

Did your friend have to go through their approved garage? Hopefully their garage can sort these out as I do like the car...especially for motorway it's a relaxing drive.

Ye when he called them they said to take it to their approved garage although i can't remember what he said it was called, anyway they looked at it and said it wasn't worth repairing hence the refund from V12

Yeah, the AC could be a major problem.

Where are they saying their approved garage is? There's a place called Lion Garage around Hinckley who are a VAG specialists and have always done a pretty good job for me...If that's their approved place I'd say you'll be well looked after.
