As it says, I seem to get references to something called a variable service interval. I can't find any reference to it in the manual either, and the car has almost done 10k now( it is an 05 model Fabia VRS ).

Anyone know?

Sorry Furby vRS does NOT have variable serviceing, it is fixed, 10 k Miles, just make sure you keep a close eye on oil usage for the firs 5-6 K miles, as it DOES drop.

Otherwise its a car.

My Fabia vRS '05 has variable servicing, and has a section in the owners handbook all about it.... AFAIK they introduced it for the '05 range.

p.s. Its not in the main booklet, its a seperate booklet itself... talks about the longlife oil in the car and variable servicing.

I think thats just part of the standard 'new car' pack.

me gots an 05 reg fab vrs and its deffo every 10 k miles servicing... it says even in ma manual and service handbook that its a QGO or summink means its fixed 10k

The Fabia vRS doesnt run variable servicng. Its doesnt have brake pad sensors, and oil quaility sensor or the software in the dash panel insert.

Also the variable service leaflet goes in every new car, comes in a white envelope with all sorts of paper work which gets put into the manual on PDi.

I know you are right, Lummox, but shouldn't you be suggesting to Skoda that it's confusing to customers to include irrelevant stuff in the standard paperwork?

And if the poster is here asking this question it would seem that the dealer didnt follow their delivery checklist too.....which includes explaining the servicing schedule afaik

Very true, salesmen often do a very poor handover with the customer. Having said that when I bought my vRS from Tavistock Motors in Ampthill they were very thorough giving a full run down on the car with us, perfect. Just a shame they are no longer a Skoda dealer as they didnt want to make the changes required to keep inline with the current Skoda 'image' etc.

yeah where i bought mine from were top draawer - went through everything..

this is missleading indeed... for instance, I have bough Castrol Longlife II oil because it says thats whats in the engine... so whats in the engine if that leaflet is not right?

If you read that little seperate booklet more closely, you will notice that it mentions that the Fabia is excluded from variable servicing. I forget where exactly, but its in there.

Have a search as there was a big discussion on it recently....

But basically, you car requires an annual inspection service each year or 20k miles whichever comes soonest. You also need an oil change (lube service) every 10k or 1 year whichever comes soonest. The annual service price they've quoted is an oil change + inspection service....

He knows. Hes already offered his knowledge in this thread' date=' but Im sure he'll clarify.

It was my understanding that the service light came on at predefined mileage marks in the Fabia, not 'when needed'

FYI:

All new Skoda cars (except the Fabia) are now manufactured with the Variable Service regime activated and the engine filled with long-life oil.

Sorry to pick up this thread so late.

I bought my vRS 2 months ago and was offered variable servicing on it by the dealer. He suggested I wait until I see what sort of mileage I am doing first and it can be set up later on.

I called on Saturday to enquire about it an they told me no problem, next time I'm passing with 30 mins spare, come in and they'll set it up!

Confusing, or what?
