Can a car with a taxi mot be used for normal use

Featured Replies

I googled it, some said no some said yes....the one's that say no say that you need to get an ordinary one as the car's no longer used as a business.....so you'd basically be buying without an mot......is this right

The car should have two mot,s a year. I know when I did it in Bournemouth years ago mine had a normal mot and a hackney carriage mot spaced 6 months apart from each other. I know the hackney carriage test is a more strict test required by the council that issues your licences but a normal mot is required to use the vehicle for private use. When I surrendered my hackney plate and license it still had a valid carriage test certificate on the car but was useless without a normal one. I hope that helps you out :)

Yea it's had 2 every year, but one runs out in December and I think it's the taxi one, I need to find out when the normal one runs out, or if it's already out then that's it....it's no use for private use as you're buying a car with no mot

I just spoke to the mechanic I use (knows and fixes a lot of local taxis) he said a taxi mot still covers for normal use, it's just that the taxi one's stricter

I would but don't have the serial numbers and won't get them anytime soon

Is the "Taxi MOT" actually administered by VOSA?

I thought they were just a Council inspection and therefore the VOSA MOT takes precedent.

Vosa...so it's ok

Vosa...so it's ok

DVSA now, VOSA don't exist anymore.

Yes it's an official hackney carriage certificate. It's only a council requirement and they don't test it.
